The Alpha’s Regret: Two Lives, One Mistake Chapter 05
Marcus handed me the plan, and the moment I saw its contents, I hurled it at Sarah’s feet in fury, papers
scattering across the floor.
The damning annotations were clearly visible: Blood Moon Altar ritual procedures, sacrifice protocols, even detailed steps on “How to exploit Alpha
protective instincts to make Lucas choose to save me instead of Elena.”
Sarah’s face went deathly pale, her legs giving way.
“Despicable Omega!” My golden eyes burned with lethal rage as my Alpha dominance flooded the basement. “Elena died on that Blood Moon Altar because of your schemes!”
Sarah was nearly suffocated by my pressure, tears streaming down her face.
“Alpha… this really isn’t what you think…”
Marcus felt my rage and his wolf was triggered, disgust flashing in his eyes. “Sarah, I also discovered your dealings with the Silver Crown rogues.”
I laughed coldly, my fists trembling with anger. “I never thought you’d dare conspire with rogues!”
Terror flashed in Sarah’s eyes. “I swear, I never meant to harm anyone… that money was just for purchasing herbs!”
“Still lying?” I advanced step by step. “You think that little cleverness could fool an Alpha’s senses? I can smell your lies!”
Just then, the basement door burst open and Kieran entered with a dark expression.
“Sarah, I never thought you could be so vicious.” Kieran shook his head, full of disappointment. “Elena is your sister. You grew up together, yet you schemed to have her die on the Blood Moon Altar?”
As an Alpha, Kieran could also smell the fear and deception in Sarah’s scent.
Tears falling, Sarah desperately shook her head, pleading: “Elena is the dearest person to me in this world. I’d rather die than harm her!”
I suddenly grabbed Sarah’s wrist, my fingers like iron clamps. “But because of you, Elena is dead!”
I had almost been deceived by her tears again, while Elena paid the price.
Sarah trembled violently, the killing intent in my eyes terrifying her. “Lucas, I admit I was jealous of her, but I just… wanted her to learn a small lesson.”
“If you don’t believe me, I’m willing to accept a trial by the Moon Goddess.”
She made as if to cut her wrist with a silver blade, but I reacted quickly, snatching the knife away.
“I’d rather die right here than have you misunderstand me like this!” Sarah collapsed weakly into my arms.
Seeing her so helpless and pitiful, memories of childhood flashed through my mind–little Sarah who always followed behind Elena, sweet and obedient. My rage subsided for an instant.
My expression grew complex.
Kieran also noticed Sarah’s vulnerable state, his expression beginning to soften. He frowned, seeming to recall something.
“Lucas, calm down.” Kieran’s voice was no longer so resolute. “Although this evidence is suspicious… she did grow up with Elena. Would she really be capable
of such viciousness?”
fell silent for a moment, releasing Sarah’s wrist, my voice still icy: “Go back to your room and reflect.”
Sarah suppressed her secret joy, gripping my sleeve tightly, triumph flashing in her eyes: “Kill my own sister? I could never do such a thing! Lucas, you know me, don’t you?”
I raised my hand to wipe away her tears, but my fingertips were ice–cold: “I will thoroughly investigate the truth of this matter.”
With those words, I strode out of the basement.
But the doubts in my heart hadn’t dissipated–they only grew stronger.
Over the next three days, I investigated Sarah’s background. Until Marcus came to me with an ancient parchment scroll.
“Alpha, you asked me to investigate Sarah’s background… there’s a major discovery.” Marcus’s expression was extremely grave.
I took the scroll emanating the scent of ages, covered with bloodline records in ancient script.
“What is this?”
“The truth sealed by the family elder before his death.
Marcus pointed to the bloodline chart on the parchment. “The true–born Luna is Elena, while Sarah…” Marcus’s voice was low, “she’s just Isabella’s bastard pup.”
My hands began to tremble. “What do you mean?”
“Elena inherited the family’s most ancient Silvermoon lineage.” Marcus pointed to the records on the genealogy. “While Sarah Black is just an ordinary half–breed.”
I felt the world spinning, all my beliefs crumbling.
“So… the ‘bloodline contamination‘ accusations Elena endured since childhood…”
“Were all lies.” Marcus gritted his teeth. “The real half–breed is Sarah, and Elena was the chosen true- born Luna.”
I clenched my fists, nails digging deep into my palms: “And I… I actually believed their lies all this time!”
When I saw Sarah’s face again, I only felt disgust and anger.
“You liar!” I kicked over the table in front of Sarah. ” Eighteen years! You deceived me for eighteen whole years!”
Sarah cowered in the corner, eyes full of terror: ” Lucas, what are you saying? I don’t understand…”
“Still pretending?” I viciously threw the parchment at her face. “Look clearly! This is iron proof of you and Isabella switching bloodlines!”
Seeing the contents, Sarah’s face went pale as paper, but then she erupted in hysterical screaming.
“No! These are all fake!” She frantically tore at the parchment. “Why should you believe these old documents? I’m the real Luna! I’ve sat in this position since childhood!”
Sarah’s eyes were bloodshot, roaring like a cornered beast: “How could that bitch Elena possibly be true-
born? She couldn’t even learn basic Luna etiquette since childhood!”
“For eighteen years everyone has acknowledged my identity!” She pointed to the Luna badge on her chest. “This is proof! You can’t deny everything about me because of a few torn papers!”
“Then explain why this badge glows in Elena’s hands but shows no reaction in yours?” I sneered as I approached, grabbing her wrist to display the Luna badge.
Sarah’s eyes flickered, but she still struggled desperately: “That… that was because something went wrong with the ritual! It’s not my fault!”
“Still lying?” I produced another document. “This is a letter you wrote to Isabella when you were sixteen, clearly stating ‘Elena must never know her true identity, must never be allowed to participate in the heritage ritual.‘ Tell me, is this also innocent?”
Seeing this letter, Sarah’s final line of defense completely collapsed. She slumped to the ground, ashen–faced: “I… I…”
“What else is there to say?” I looked down at her from above. “Eighteen years of lies, eighteen years of deception!”
Sarah completely broke down, falling to her knees in tears: “I… I had no choice… if I didn’t do this, I would have nothing…”
In the following days, I imprisoned Sarah in the basement, making her endure all the pain I had once inflicted on Elena.
Silver blades, wolfsbane potions, mental torture… everything Elena had endured, I made Sarah pay back tenfold.
“Please… spare me…” Sarah’s voice was so weak it was barely audible.
“Spare you?” I laughed coldly. “When Elena knelt on the ground begging you back then, did you spare her?
But every night in the deep silence, I was consumed by endless regret.
I caressed Elena’s photo, tears falling uncontrollably.
“Elena… I’m sorry… I actually let you endure so much pain for so many years…”
if I had discovered the truth earlier, if I hadn’t been deceived by Sarah, wouldn’t you have left me?
“You were the one I should have protected… damn it, why was I so foolish…”
Just as I was drowning in self–blame and pain, a gilded invitation appeared on my desk.
Sender: Northern Wastes Pack – Lycan King Damon
[Cordially inviting Alpha Lucas to attend the upcoming mate–bond ceremony. Our new Queen Luna looks forward to reuniting with old friends. Time: Blood Moon Night. Location: Glacier Throne Hall.] Seeing this invitation, my blood instantly froze.
Northern Wastes Pack… that was the legendary territory of the most powerful Lycan King.
And those four words “reuniting with old friends“–
“Marcus!” I urgently summoned my Beta.
Immediately investigate recent news about the Northern Wastes Pack!”
“Alpha, do you mean…”
I gripped the invitation tightly, my fingertips white from the force: “I need to know who their new Queen Luna really is!”
