The Alpha’s Regret: Two Lives, One Mistake Chapter 04
Lucas’s POV
Kieran ran with Sarah in his arms, me close behind.” Hang on! We’re almost there!”
But what about Elena? I just abandoned Elena… who would be this desperate to save her?
When we burst out of the Forbidden Forest, several
elders were already waiting. Seeing Sarah barely clinging to life, Dr. Morgan immediately rushed forward to examine her.
“Quick! Get her to the medical wing!”
Once I confirmed Sarah was being taken care of, I immediately turned to head back to the Blood Moon Altar, but Kieran grabbed my arm. “Lucas, going back
now won’t save Elena.”
“What do you mean?” My heart pounded.
“Once the Blood Moon ritual begins, it cannot be interrupted,” an elder shook his head. “And with this much time having passed…”
No… it can’t be…
“I promised her I’d come back for her!” I struggled to break free.
“Lucas!” Isabella barked sharply, “Elena is surely dead by now. Going back won’t change anything! Sarah needs you!”
“Besides, she’s just a half–blood Luna. Not worth risking yourself further.”
Just a half–blood Luna?
But she’s my fated mate! She’s the woman I failed in my past life!
And now I’ve failed her again.
The elders forcibly locked me in my room, saying they’d decide what to do come dawn. But as I stood on the balcony at midnight, a tearing pain suddenly shot through my chest.
“Ahh-” I collapsed to my knees, clutching my chest as silver claws seemed to rip through my ribcage. The bond between Elena and me was snapping, thread by thread.
I could feel her life force fading. “Elena…” I curled up on the ground in agony, “don’t… don’t leave me…”
But there was no response. That soul–deep connection was gone forever.
Memories from my past life flooded back like a tide. When Elena died before, I had experienced this same pain–the despair of having my soul torn in half.
This anguish of losing one’s fated mate was like a million silver needles piercing my bone marrow simultaneously. I clutched my head, rolling on the ground, beast–like howls tearing from my throat.
She was really dead. My Elena… had left me forever once again.
Sobs echoed from Sarah’s room. I pushed open the door to find her curled up in the corner of her bed.
“It’s all my fault… if I hadn’t stolen the moonstone, if I hadn’t run into the forest, Elena wouldn’t have…”
“Stop pretending!” I roared out of control.
Sarah jumped. “I… I really didn’t know it would turn out like this…”
“Didn’t know? Did you think about the consequences
when you stole the moonstone?” I stared at her intensely.
won’t hate me, will
“But you chose to save me… you won’t hate you?”
I stared hard at her innocent face, suddenly realizing a terrible truth.
What kind of monster was I to choose Sarah over Elena yet again?
In the ruins of the Blood Moon Altar, I shifted into my
wolf form and searched frantically, sniffing every inch of ground.
But there was nothing. No blood, no scent.
As if she had completely evaporated.
I howled in despair, the sound echoing through the deep forest.
Elena, do you hate me so much that you won’t even let me find your body…
“Her life essence has completely disappeared. Even tracking spells are useless,” Isabella said in the council chamber.
I burst in. “How is that possible? The Blood Moon ritual doesn’t make life essences vanish completely!”
The elders exchanged glances, and Isabella said. slowly, “Perhaps it’s the ancient curse of the altar.”
“What special magic?” I pressed.
Another elder quickly changed the subject. “In any case, she’s dead. We should discuss Sarah’s future. She’s been severely traumatized and needs better protection…”
Elena had just died, and they were already discussing Sarah’s future?
In their eyes, was Elena just a tool that could be sacrificed at any time?
At dawn, I returned to my room. My reflection in the mirror shocked me–completely silver hair.
“This is my punishment…” I laughed bitterly, then went mad smashing all the mirrors.
Elena, I finally understand the pain you endured in our past life… but it’s too late, everything is too late.
Glass shards scattered across the floor as rage burned in my chest.
I strode toward Sarah’s room and grabbed her arm.
“Lucas? Where are you taking me?” Sarah asked in panic.
I didn’t answer, dragging her directly to the basement.
“It’s all because of you!” I roared, my eyes burning with mad fury. “Elena is dead! I lost her again!”
I locked Sarah’s wrists with silver chains. The silver contact made her moan in pain.
“Lucas… I didn’t mean for this…” Sarah backed away in terror.
“Didn’t mean to? You never think about consequences when you fake being sick!” I completely lost control.” Now Elena is dead, and it’s time for you to pay!”
“You bitch! You ruined my chance to start over!”
In the time that followed, I began torturing Sarah. With every harm I inflicted, I remembered Elena’s desperate eyes at the Blood Moon Altar.
But what was the point? Could this bring Elena back?
I began questioning every choice I’d made, doubting every emotion I felt. Did I actually love Sarah, or was I just used to her dependence?
Just then, my Beta Marcus knocked and entered, his expression grave.
“Alpha Lucas, I’ve discovered something…” he hesitated. “Sarah stealing the moonstone wasn’t an accident.”
“I found detailed materials about the Blood Moon
Altar in her room, along with a written plan. She knew stealing the moonstone would get her captured, knew you would come save her, and knew the Blood Moon ritual only allows saving one person.”
