He Said Cheating Was a habit, Fine I Swapped Grooms Chapter 06

I spoke too soon.

Thomas found me. He stood outside my apartment door,

gaunt and exhausted, dark circles bruising the skin beneath his eyes.

“Amy.” His voice came out hoarse, and he took a step forward.

I pulled away as he reached for me. “Say what you’ve got to

say, but don’t get that close.”

Instinctively, I dug into my purse and aimed my pepper spray at his face.

Thomas froze. “Pepper spray? Amy, would you really use that on me?”

I watched him warily, my finger hovering over the nozzle.

“Yes. I’m not taking chances after what you did to me last time.”

I meant every word. If he took one more step, I would press

the nozzle without hesitation.

The color drained from Thomas’s face. He looked sick,

consumed by a grief he couldn’t name.

‘Don’t treat me like this, Amy. I found out the truth.

Everything you sent me was real. Lilith lied about the baby

being mine. Every stunt she pulled was meant to drive us apart…”

He spoke faster and faster, his gaze locked firmly on mine, the

same adoring look he’d given me back when we were desperately in love.

“I won’t agree to a divorce.” He said the words quietly, but his

resolve was unshakable. “Amy, I’m not divorcing you. I’ve cut

Lilith out of my life completely. Let us start over.”

I shook my head gently. “It’s too late, Thomas.”

“It’s not too late. I can change. I promise from now on I’ll–”

“Didn’t you say you felt no physical attraction toward me?” I

cut him off, a bitter smile twisting my lips. “I have no desire

for a sexless marriage. And worse, every time I look at you

now, all I feel is revulsion.”

Thomas went rigid, agony flickering in his eyes.

A moment later, they glistened, and his voice cracked. “It

wasn’t always this awkward between us. I truly thought we

could grow into intimacy, but something always felt missing.

His hands shook as he pulled a crumpled sheet of therapy

notes from his pocket. “Look, I went to see a therapist. I don’t

understand why my body never wanted you the way I love

you. You’re the only one I love…”

The creases in the paper distorted his name.

almost laughed, but the sound died hollow in my throat.

I remembered we moved in together right after graduation.

During those three years of sharing an apartment, he kissed

me and held me close, yet we never slept together.

When I asked him why back then, he met my eyes with

tender restraint and smiled. “I believe intimacy should wait

until marriage. It’s how I show you respect.”

At the time, I’d admired him as a man of integrity.

How naive I had been. We had built this trap ourselves.

“So now you regret it? You think if we’d tried sooner, none of

this would have happened?” I lowered my arm slowly, my tone calm.

“That still doesn’t excuse your infidelity. You could have

divorced me first and found someone you actually desired,

instead of keeping me in the dark while sleeping with

another woman.”

Thomas swallowed hard and took another step forward.

“Amy, I swear it. No matter how mismatched we are

physically, I would have married you anyway. I love you

completely. My whole world revolves around you…”

Just then, the bedroom door swung open.

Lance stepped out wearing a loose, pale–blue sleep shirt.

Amy, what’s all the shouting about?”

He rubbed his sleepy eyes and pulled me into his arms out of

habit, a fresh hickey marking his neck,

He spotted the stunned Thomas and frowned. “Who the hell

are you? What gives you the right to harass my girlfriend?”
