He Heard Every Thought I Had About His Body Chapter 12
By the time we got Tara home safely, it was already past midnight.
Before we left, I stopped at a drugstore near her place.
As we got back into the car, Warren glanced over.
“What did you buy?”
I rubbed my temples.
“Condoms.”
Warren’s grip on the steering wheel tightened so suddenly that the car swerved slightly before he
steadied it.
The tips of his ears turned bright red.
That big of a reaction?
I’d better shut up. Safety first–don’t wanna take us
both out in a crash.
I tilted my head against the seat and closed my eyes.
Neither of us spoke. An awkward silence filled the car.
After we got home, we took turns showering.
The moment Warren stepped out of the bathroom, he
saw me opening the box.
I even counted them.
One, two, three, four, five.
How many days is five supposed to last?
Romance novels say five isn’t enough for one night.
Real life says two would probably be pushing it.
He was so nervous earlier… don’t tell me he’s gonna
finish in two seconds.
Should I comfort him? Ugh. Men are so much work.
Warren decided he’d heard more than enough. He walked over to the bed.
I looked up.
Normally he slept in light clothes. Tonight, he was wrapped up far more than usual.
My expression didn’t change.
“You don’t want to?”
“No. That’s not it.” He swallowed nervously. “I just…
want to know why.”
I raised a brow.
“Don’t you like me?”
Warren stared at me in disbelief.
She just… said it?
The feelings I’d agonized over, hinted at, and kept
hidden for so long–and she’d just blurted it out like it was nothing.
Couldn’t she at least look a little surprised? Now I just felt like an idiot.
When he stayed silent again, I added, “If you like someone, you sleep with them.”
Why is he dragging this out? I’m getting sleepy.
Warren didn’t dare think any further.
Instead, he hurried to ask, “Back then, when you
helped Tara–why didn’t you tell me? Why did you go
to Cole instead?”
“You worry too much.”
“Then why were you with Cole for so long?”
“Because I liked him.”
What kind of dumb question is that?
If I didn’t like him, I would’ve broken up with him ages ago.
That honesty left Warren completely speechless.
He quietly comforted himself.
At least she hadn’t divorced me. That had to mean she liked me too.
I was running out of patience.
“So? Are we doing this or not?”
“We are.” Warren answered without hesitation.
The sound of foil tearing open instantly put me on edge.
I’d started to dread that sound. My mind went blank as
I grabbed his wrist.
“Don’t use it.”
Warren blinked. “That doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
“No, that’s not what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean?”
He drew me into his arms, his lips finding mine, then
slowly trailing lower as he leaned over me completely.
Like a man who’d wandered through the desert for
years without a drop of water.
He looked at me with innocent eyes.
“So… is this what you meant, Cora?”
“Do you like this, Cora? Baby?”
After that, everything became a blur.
The only thing I remembered was Warren stubbornly
making me tell him I liked him.
If I refused, he’d deliberately keep teasing me until I
gave in. He really was devious.
I must’ve said it at least ten times.
Afterward, I drank several glasses of water.
Exhausted, I sank back against the pillows.
I suddenly remembered what I’d thought months ago
when I’d first seen Warren step out of the shower.
Turns out, I was right about him. It was absolutely worth it.
