He Heard Every Thought I Had About His Body Chapter 11
I didn’t want too many people to know what had happened.
Even if that person was the childhood friend I’d grown up with.
Using thanking Cole as an excuse, I brushed the whole thing aside.
All Warren knew was that the boy who bullied Tara got beaten up and transferred schools the very next day.
He never knew I was the one who’d done it.
For some reason, guilt crept into my chest.
“I’m sorry.”
Warren’s eyes dimmed.
“So… you dated Cole because he’d stand beside you.
And I wouldn’t.”
I blinked. What did those two things have to do with each other?
Cole frowned. “We got together because we loved each other.”
“Cora wasn’t close to you, but she was close to me.”
“Whenever she did something, she’d bring me along.”
Tara’s eyes went wide. She jabbed Cole hard in the arm.
“Dude, what the hell are you saying?”
He looked at her like she was missing the obvious.
“I’m driving a wedge between them. Wasn’t that clear?”
Tara fell silent.
Warren’s jaw tightened, his dark eyes carried a quiet warning.
“Cole. You’ve gone far enough.”
Cole shrugged. “I’m just telling the truth.”
“And one more thing, Warren.”
“Cora still doesn’t know you were the one who
schemed to get me sent overseas, does she?”
Warren froze.
I frowned. “Schemed you?”
“That’s right. Cora, he was behind the whole thing.”
“He’d planned it from the beginning.”
“Once I left the country, he’d have you all to himself.”
As Cole laid it all out, the pieces gradually fell into place.
The summer after graduation, Warren took a part–time job as a tutor.
The student he taught happened to be Cole’s younger cousin, who was staying with his family.
At the time, Cole was off traveling with friends. He couldn’t have cared less about his poor cousin.
During that period, Warren managed to convince Cole’s parents to send their son overseas.
Warren didn’t deny a single word.
I looked at him.
“Is he telling the truth?”
“Yes.” he said, his voice hoarse.
Our eyes met. Silence settled between us.
Tara awkwardly scratched her cheek.
“Uh… Should I leave?”
I cut in, “Your phone’s still broken. I’ll drive you home later.”
Cole smiled triumphantly.
“Cora. Now you finally see him for who he is.”
“The man sleeping beside you is nothing but a calculating liar.”
A calculating liar?
Warren lowered his eyes. He quietly waited for his wife’s judgment. Would Cora divorce me?
She’d never loved me in the first place.
And after something this despicable, how could she possibly stay?
“But in the end, wasn’t it still your decision?”
I folded my arms across my chest.
My voice was calm and cold, without the slightest trace of emotion.
“You keep saying it was your family’s decision. But let’s be honest. If you really didn’t want to go, do you think anyone could have made you?”
“If you had truly been determined to stay with me,
would a few words from them have changed your mind?”
“In the end, you’d already made your choice.”
“Warren only gave you a push. So why are you blaming everything on him?”
I stepped in front of Warren, shielding him.
Because of that, I never saw the mixture of shock and joy that crossed his face.
The color drained from Cole’s. He looked embarrassed to have been exposed.
Even more than that, he couldn’t believe I was defending Warren.
When had he ever heard me speak this many words in one breath?
I’d always been quiet. If I could avoid talking, I would.
“You’re really going to take his side?”
“Warren’s my husband.”
Cole clenched his fists. A bitter ache spread through his chest.
It finally hit him–even if Warren had been completely at fault today, I still would’ve chosen Warren without
hesitation.
“Cora… have you fallen in love with him?”
The bitterness in his voice faded before the stunned
look on my face.
I tilted my head slightly.
My gaze didn’t dare lift. It stayed fixed on Warren.
Love? I’m in love with Warren? Am I?
My thoughts dissolved into chaos.
Then Cole’s voice pulled me back.
He smiled. The same familiar smile I’d known for years.
“Cora. There’s one blessing I never got the chance to give you.”
“Congrats on your marriage.”
