He Heard Every Thought I Had About His Body Chapter 08
That night, I went to bed later than usual.
I’d eaten too much and spent forever walking it off.
I climbed into bed slowly.
The second I closed my eyes, they flew right back open.
An arm had wrapped itself around my waist.
Warren had shifted closer, his warm breath brushing
against the back of my neck.
My mind went completely blank.
He was pressed close.
With only our thin summer pajamas between us, I could clearly feel the shape of his chest against my back.
The intimate position made every muscle in my body tense. Even my spine went rigid.
Warren and I had always shared a bed, but we’d always kept to our own sides.
This had never happened before.
I didn’t dare move.
“Warren.” I called his name a few more times under
my breath.
Was he asleep?
He seemed to stir a little.
With a sleepy hum, he nuzzled into the crook of my
neck like an oversized cat.
“…Sleepy.”
Don’t move. Seriously, don’t move.
Is he planning to hold me like this all night? This is weird.
But his pecs are actually kind of soft. I wanna bite them.
No, Cora, stop these dangerous thoughts.
Damn. Still wanna bite them. Man–boobs… nom nom nom.
I was completely lost in my own thoughts.
So I never noticed that the man behind me quietly
shifted his lower body farther away, leaving a careful gap between us.
The corners of his mouth kept creeping upward.
After that night, Warren started cuddling me every
time we went to sleep. Every. Single. Night.
In the morning, he’d apologize with complete sincerity.
Then that evening, he’d wrap himself around me all over again.
Though strangely enough, I didn’t mind.
The only odd part was that he’d sometimes let go halfway through the night and disappear into the
bathroom. For a long time.
I told Tara about it.
She took a sip through her straw and sighed dramatically.
“You two are finally acting like an actual married couple.”
I blinked. “We didn’t before? My parents were like this too.”
“That’s because you were there,” Tara said, setting down her drink.
“No way they were that proper behind closed doors. Otherwise, where do you think you came from?”
Now I was the one chewing on my straw.
“But we’re not that close.”
“Then kiss him. That’s a good way to start.”
“Okay. I’ll ask him when I get home.”
Tara stared at me.
“You’re actually going to ask?”
When I got home, I couldn’t stop thinking about her advice.
A kiss–that sounded like a reasonable first step.
I looked toward the kitchen.
Warren was cooking dinner.
He wore an apron with the sleeves of his shirt rolled to
his elbows, showing off his strong forearms.
The smell coming from the stove was incredible.
Rosa had taken the day off. Warren had volunteered to cook.
This feels weirdly familiar.
Tara sent me a new comic this morning.
The male lead was cooking in the kitchen too. He had
an apron on and absolutely nothing underneath it.
Warren nearly choked on the soup he was tasting.
I quickly handed him a tissue.
He accepted it with a perfectly straight face.
At this rate, he was going to end up dead–either from falling or choking,
My eyes drifted lazily over the apron.
If he wasn’t wearing anything underneath… from the
back, he’d basically be naked.
Would it… you know, bounce?
Well, if it was long enough, probably. I wonder if
Warren’s is…
“The kitchen’s smoky. You should wait outside.”
Without another word, Warren ushered me out with
both hands and firmly shut the kitchen door behind me.
I frowned in confusion.
Sure, I couldn’t cook.
But it wasn’t like I’d magically blow up the kitchen just by standing there.
Why was he guarding it so carefully?
Men were seriously impossible to figure out.
