He Heard Every Thought I Had About His Body Chapter 05
“Warren, we’re just catching up. You planning to police that too?”
“Catching up is fine,” Warren said, his tone perfectly calm.
“But some boundaries should be respected, Mr. Bennett.”
A faint smile curved his lips–polite, and unmistakably smug.
“After all, Cora’s my wife now. And we’re very much in love.”
The words didn’t come out quite as confidently as he’d intended.
He stole a quick glance at me.
My eyes were lowered, lost in thought.
White pants really do make the package look bigger.
Warren slowly closed his eyes. He really felt speechless.
“In love?” Cole let out a dismissive laugh.
“Cora only married you because you grew up together.
She’s just used to having you around.”
“Otherwise, why would’ve she dated me?”
Warren’s arm tightened around my shoulders. His tingertips telt cold.
“Because I was young.” My voice stayed even.
“Whether we’re in love is between my husband and me.”
“We broke up years ago. You don’t get a say in my marriage.”
I hated scenes like this.
I’d come to the reunion to see old classmates, not to
watch my husband argue with my ex.
Cole clearly hadn’t expected me to defend Warren.
The color drained from his face.
“That’s… not what I meant.”
Warren looked pleased. He smiled easily.
“Exactly, Mr. Bennett.”
“The past is the past. Why keep holding on to it?”
Cole’s temper flared again. His voice turned sharp.
“If you hadn’t set that whole thing up back then-”
“There you guys are!” someone’s voice cut in. My high school friend, Derek.
“I was wondering where everyone disappeared to.”
What did he mean, set things up?
Before I could think about it any further, Warren’s
hand slid down to my waist.
He pulled me a little closer.
I looked up at him.
Still smiling he asked, “And you are?”
Derek immediately introduced himself.
“So you’re Warren! I’ve heard your name since high school.”
“You really are as handsome as everyone said.”
“What a pleasure to finally meet you.”
…Please. You were always first in line whenever there
was gossip. There’s no way you’ve never seen him.
You were also the biggest Cora–and–Cole shipper in school.
The second we were in the same room, you’d be the
loudest one cheering us on.
“That’s right. I’m Cora’s husband.
Warren reached out for a handshake,
The moment Derek grabbed his hand, Warren squeezed. Hard.
Derek sucked in a sharp breath.
“Sorry. I’ve been training for running lately. My grip’s
gotten a little strong.”
What does running have to do with grip strength?
Derek looked just as confused.
But Warren’s friendly smile made the question evaporate almost instantly.
“You and Cora were childhood friends, and now you’re married. Congrats!”
“Only thing is, I never got invited to the wedding.”
“There’ll be another chance.”
Cole smiled without a trace of warmth.
I couldn’t help smiling to myself.
Warren’s smile froze.
Derek quickly jumped in before things could spiral again.
“All right, all right. Let’s head back and grab a drink.”
“Warren, come with us. Everyone’s been dying to meet Cora’s husband.”
Without waiting for an answer, he herded the three of
us back toward the private room.
