He Chose Her Bed I Chose Their Ruin Chapter 04
On the day of the anniversary, James and Emily stood at the entrance greeting guests. When they saw that I actually dared to show up, they immediately exchanged glances and started mocking me.
Emily sneered, “Sophia, you really surprise me. A woman like you that nobody wants, attending our engagement party–don’t you feel pathetic?”
I was about to fight back when a strong arm wrapped around my waist.
“Sorry, honey, I’m late.”
David’s voice sounded in my ear.
I turned around in surprise to see him smiling at me, winking.
He held me tight, as if showing off to James and Emily, and said in a provocative tone:
“An engagement party for a cheating man and a homewrecker really isn’t worth anyone’s time. If we didn’t want to see just
how shameless you two are, we would’ve gone on vacation already.”
James’s face darkened, his tone turning bitter:
“You divorced me yesterday and you’re with him today? You’ve been cheating all along, haven’t you?”
I laughed coldly. “You’re really pathetic, James. Instead of wasting time suspecting me, why don’t you ask your new girlfriend if she’s seduced other married men before.”
Staring at Emily’s angry face, I added, “After all, Emily’s used to being a homewrecker, isn’t she?”
“You!”
Emily looked like she wanted to devour me, but James held her back tightly.
“Alright, honey, our engagement party should begin.”
James comforted her, then stared hard at me.
“Why should we get angry over a pitiful woman who’s lost both her husband and her shares?”
Emily finally perked up, snorted contemptuously, and walked
into the venue with James, chin held high.
David and I exchanged glances, and I mouthed “thank you” to him.
David just smiled and walked forward with me.
As the party began, all the guests looked at James and Emily on stage in surprise, asking questions:
“Isn’t today James and Sophia’s wedding anniversary? Where’s Sophia? Who’s that beside James?”
I was curious too about how James would explain this, so David and I stood in a corner waiting for his performance.
To my surprise, James picked up the microphone, looked at Emily lovingly, and said to the guests:
“Everyone, there’s something I’ve been keeping to myself. The truth is–Sophia isn’t my true love, but the villain who tore Emily and me apart.”
The crowd gasped, looking at them in disbelief.
James continued:
“Ever since my biological sister went missing, my parents and I
were heartbroken, searching for her every single day.”
“But when we found her at the orphanage, she had already tragically died from a peanut allergy.”
“At the orphanage, Emily was the only one who took care of her,
loved her, and cried for her. So we decided to bring Emily home and treat her as family.”
“However, Sophia always looked down on Emily and even
bullied her. To avoid making me sad, Emily could only endure it alone.”
“It wasn’t until I was dating Sophia that Emily, unable to bear the pain any longer, told me the truth and said if I stayed with Sophia, she’d have no choice but to return to the orphanage.”
“After hearing this, I decided to break up with Sophia. But Sophia threatened me, saying if I dared to do that, she would use every means to get revenge on me and Emily.”
“I had to endure for years until I built my own career and could protect the woman I love.”
As James delivered his dramatic performance, the big screen began showing photos of him and Emily together.
From childhood to adulthood, the two looked blissfully happy, as if they really were star–crossed lovers torn apart by me.
The guests sighed with emotion, and Emily cooperatively shed tears, throwing herself into James’s arms.
James held Emily and announced loudly:
“Today is no longer a wedding anniversary, but my and Emily’s engagement day!”
His words moved the guests deeply, and thunderous applause erupted.
If I didn’t know the truth, I’d probably be teary–eyed right now too.
Too bad your tragic performance is about to end.
The screen suddenly changed, showing the two of them naked and intertwined.
Emily’s sweet voice and James’s heavy breathing mixed together
Then James’s voice was amplified many times over:
“If it weren’t for the shares she holds, I would never have married her.”
“Once that idiot transfers all her shares to me, tomorrow she’ll be wandering the streets of the slums.”
The entire venue erupted in shock. James’s parents were so ashamed they wanted to disappear.
And although my parents had prepared themselves, seeing this scene still made them clench their fists.
On stage, James and Emily turned pale with fright, frantically trying to block the screen, but it was useless.
