Top Digger’s Counterattack Chapter 06
Scarlett plated the food as she said, “The Reed family’s issue is settled.”
“Jax really works fast,” Damien said, walking over to grab the food.
He added, “So, what are you going to do next?”
Scarlett took off her apron and said, “Kyler’s starting to get suspicious of Me.”
Damien set the dishes on the table and asked, “Want
Me to step in?”
Scarlett pulled out a chair and sat down, replying, “No need. I want him to come for me by himself.”
After dinner, Damien went to his study to deal with Some paperwork.
Scarlett sat on the couch and turned on the TV.
Her phone buzzed. It was a message from Kyler.
Kyler: [Tomorrow night, there’s a cocktail party. Can you come with me?]
Scarlett stared at the screen, and a sly smile tugged at her lips. She shot back a one–word reply.
Scarlett: [Sure.]
The next evening, Scarlett was dressed in a red spaghetti strap dress.
Her long hair was swept up in an elegant bun, and her
bold red lips drew all the attention.
Kyler was stunned when he came to pick her up.
“You look stunning tonight,” he said.
Scarlett opened the car door and sat in, saying, “Thanks.”
The cocktail party was held in a five–star hotel.
Kyler walked into the banquet hall with Scarlett.
They became the center of attention in an instant.
“Why did Kyler bring Scarlett here?” someone whispered.
“Lila was just dumped, and now he’s already moved on?” another person said.
“Scarlett’s got some serious tricks up her sleeve,” Someone else Muttered.
Scarlett slipped her arm through Kyler’s and smiled.
Wherever she went, all eyes fixed on her.
Jax came over with a wine glass in hand and teased, “Well, Kyler, looks like you’re trying a new flavor.”
Kyler stepped in front of Scarlett, shielding her.
He snapped, “Watch your mouth, Jax.”
Jax just laughed and stared at Scarlett, saying, “Hello, Scarlett, looks like we keep bumping into each other.”
Kyler frowned. He turned to look at Scarlett and asked, “You two know each other?”
Scarlett nodded and replied, “We’ve crossed paths once.”
Jax took a sip of wine and said, “Not only have we met once. Scarlett helped me a lot.”
Kyler’s expression darkened. “What do you mean?” he asked.
Jax leaned in toward Kyler and said, “Don’t you know? Scarlett’s the one who schemed the Reed family’s bankruptcy.”
Kyler turned to Scarlett, fixing her with a hard look.
He demanded, “Is what he said true?”
Scarlett kept her cool, her expression unchanged. She replied, “Yes.”
Kyler took a step back and asked, “Why?”
Scarlett looked at him and replied, “I told you, I’m a bad woman.”
Kyler gritted his teeth and asked, “You used Me?”
Scarlett just smiled and said, “Kyler, you’re the one who chased after Me.”
Kyler turned and walked away. Scarlett didn’t chase after him.
Jax stood by, clapping and saying, “I admire you, Scarlett.”
Scarlett picked up a glass of wine and knocked back her drink in one swift Motion.
She said coldly, “Show’s over, Jax. Get out.”
Jax just shrugged and turned to leave.
Scarlett walked out of the banquet hall and onto balcony of the hotel.
The night breeze brushed against her skin. It was a bit chilly.
Suddenly, a suit jacket was gently draped over her shoulders.
Scarlett turned around and found it was Damien.
She asked, “What brings you out here?”
Damien leaned against the railing and replied, “I was worried someone would bully you.”
Scarlett flashed a confident smile and said, “Who’d
dare bully Me?”
Damien looked at her and said quietly. “Kyler’s gone.”
Scarlett just nodded and replied, “I know.”
Damien reached out and drew her into his arms.
He said softly, “From now on, you don’t need to bother with him anymore.”
Scarlett leaned against his chest and listened to his
heartbeat.
“Alright,” she murmured.
The next day, Kyler didn’t come to school.
Word was, Kyler had locked himself in his room and
was drowning his sorrows in booze.
Scarlett sat in class. Everyone around her kept sneaking glances at her.
After class, Scarlett walked out of the classroom. She had barely stepped into the hallway when some girls blocked her path.
The leader was Mia Brooks, Kyler’s biggest fan.
Mia accused, “Scarlett, after what you did to Kyler, you still have the nerve to show your face here?”
Scarlett stared at her and shot back, “What did I do to him?”
Mia pointed at Scarlett’s nose and spat, “You Made Lila drop out, then used Kyler to bring down the Reed family. You’re a heartless bitch!”
Scarlett slapped her hand away and sneered, “Mia, you’re really silly.”
Mia got flustered, her cheeks burning with anger.
“You dare insult Me?” she shouted.
Scarlett took a step forward and stared Mia down, her gaze icy and unwavering.
She snapped, “Lila was two–timing. She dug her own grave.
“The Reed family was dodging taxes. They deserved it.
“About Kyler’s being drunk, that’s his own problem. He can’t handle his feelings.
“What do these have to do with me?”
Intimidated by Scarlett’s attitude, Mia backed off.
“You’re just making excuses!” she shot back.
Scarlett let out a cold laugh and said, “Get out of my way.”
She shoved Mia aside and strode away without a backward glance.
Live comments started rolling in again.
[Holy shit, Scarlett’s presence is towering.]
[Now she’s a real power fantasy queen.]
[Well done!]
That afternoon, Scarlett’s phone buzzed with an incoming call.
It was Elara Cole, Kyler’s mother.
