To Love the Alpha Who Wears My Mate’s Heart Chapter 04

To Love the Alpha Who Wears My Mate’s Heart Chapter 04

When I got to my mother’s house, Maria was already on

the phone with a lawyer

She sighed when she saw me walk in

The people downstairs have been harassing you again,”

she said. Maybe you should tell Ryan. Have him talk to his

mother Julia and get her to leave you alone.”

I met her probing gaze and shook my head slowly. He

won’t believe me. In his eyes, his mother loves me more

than she loves him.”

Maria sighed again, rubbing her thumb over my gaunt

cheek. Come back to the countryside with me. There’s

nothing left here. Matthew is gone.”

I cut her off. Mom. He’s still here.”

I grabbed a throw pillow and pressed my ear against it

Matthew’s heart had grown veins and blood through the

cotton. I could hear it beating

He’s right here. I can hear him calling me.”

Maria touched the pillow, her eyes glistening. She didn’t

stop me. She just left the room on her own

After she walked out, I texted Julia: [I’m breaking the bond

with Ryan in two weeks. Call off your watchers.

She didn’t reply. But the people lurking around my

building vanished within the hour

Over the next few days, Ryan didn’t come looking for me once

His social media profiles had gone from blank to full of Mia

Turns out he wasn’t inactive. He’d just set everything about her to private. A decade’s worth of confessions to her, hidden from the world

He’d erased every trace of me. Like he and Mia had never been apart

I liked his latest post

A moment later, my phone buzzed with a text from him

[Do you still have those pills you gave me before? My heart’s acting up.

In the past, I’d have rushed to his side

But now I felt nothing. I knew he wasn’t Matthew and

had no reason left to love him

[There should be some in the cabinet in my room. If not, have the housekeeper buy some.

He didn’t reply

I didn’t care. I unzipped the pillow and plugged in the recorder to charge

That night, heavy rain started pounding outside. A knock came at the door

I figured it was the lawyer I’d called, so I hurried over and

opened it

It was Ryan

He stood there, dripping wet, hair plastered to his forehead

His usual Alpha dominance was gone. He looked like

stray dog left out in the storm

I’d never seen him so wrecked

What do you want?”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he peered past the cracked

door, scanning the room inside. I shifted to block his view

He pulled back, his lips parting like he wanted to say something, but nothing came out

My mother called from inside. Who is it?”

No one,I said. Just someone with the wrong door.”

I was about to close it

Amelia,he said, my chest hurts.”

His face was pale, and the pain in his eyes looked real

I stepped back calmly, making sure I was in view of the security camera. If you’re in pain, go to the Pack Hospital. Why come here?”

Ryan looked up at the camera and let out a bitter laugh

He popped a pill, and his breathing slowly steadied

Afraid I’ll die here and make a mess of your place?”

I frowned. A knot of unease tightened in my stomach

Did he know something

He took a long breath. Do you remember clause one of our contract?”

My face went cold. Of course I did. During the bond, I was supposed to do everything possible to produce an heir for the Silver Moon Pack

Amelia,he said, our contract isn’t over yet. You still have obligations to fulfill today.”

I almost laughed. He called me a barren Omega one minute, and nowwith his first love backhe still wanted to use me for this

But it didn’t matter anymore. Two more weeks, and I’d be free

Let’s go to a hotel,I said, grabbing my keys. My mother’s home. It’s not convenient here.”

I started for the stairs

But Ryan pinned me against the wall, holding up a photo and a pill bottle in front of my face

Amelia. Tell me. What is this bottle? And who’s the man in

this picture?”
