To Love the Alpha Who Wears My Mate’s Heart Chapter 03
The next day, I went to the office to discuss breaking the bond with Ryan.
I ran into Mia coming out of the elevator.
She was in a hurry and collided with me before either of us could react. I stumbled a few steps before catching myself.
She recognized me, smiled, and handed me Ryan’s jacket.
“Here–give this back to Ryan for me,” she said. “You’d better keep an eye on him. Next time, don’t let another woman hand you his clothes.”
She flipped her hair, and Ryan’s scent hit me, thick and cloying. They’d clearly had a long night together.
“As for last night’s trending post, that was just an accident, I’ll clear it up with the public later,” she added. “Don’t get mad at Ryan over it. He wasn’t trying to hurt you.”
“That’s just how he is,” she went on. “When he loves something, he holds it like gold. When he doesn’t, he throws it away. People and possessions alike, you know.”
I caught the sting in her words and smiled back at her. “Then why didn’t he beg you to stay when you left the country? He only visited you on your birthdays, and nothing else.”
“Every other day of the year? He spent them in my arms.”
Mia’s smile faded. She let out a cold laugh and pushed
open the office door without knocking.
Ryan was in the middle of getting an earful from one of
the Elders. His eyes lit up the second she walked in, and
he guided her to the couch.
“Didn’t you leave hours ago? What took you so long?”
Mia told him straight. “Ran into your Luna. We chatted a bit.”
Ryan finally noticed me behind her. His face went cold.
“Mia drank too much last night. She’s not feeling well, and
you still had to corner her? I never realized how cruel you could be.”
The cut on his face hadn’t healed. A trickle of blood seeped out as he spoke.
I felt a wave of disgust wash over me. He got to keep
living, while the man who’d actually loved me was dead.
The Elder had had enough. “Amelia is your wife, Alpha. Get
that through your head. If she hadn’t been cleaning up your scandals, you’d have been thrown out of the Silver
Moon Pack years ago,”
Ryan’s fists tightened. His jaw was locked with frustration.
He didn’t get it. I was just an Omega, Why did the entire
pack expect him to love me, respect me?
He shot the Elder a look of pure contempt.
“If you hadn’t run Mia off and pressured me to produce heirs for the Silver Moon Pack, I never would’ve mated an Omega from a ruined pack. Now Mia’s back. What’s the point of having a Luna who can’t even bear my pups?”
He was right.
Ryan had never loved me. And with Mia back, he never would.
I’d always known that.
I pulled out the bond dissolution agreement I’d had prepared. “Ryan. Break the bond with me.”
His expression went cold. He took the papers, scanning through them.
When he got to the part where I’d agreed to walk away with nothing just to end it fast, he did a double take.
“Breaking the bond with nothing? Just to get divorced faster?” He stared at me. “Amelia, are you serious?”
The Elder panicked, reaching for the papers. “Luna Amelia, don’t rush into such a hasty decision. Think more about yourself.”
But Mia snatched the agreement first, stamped it with Ryan’s personal seal. “She’s so capable, I’m sure she won’t miss this small sum of money anyway.”
She handed Ryan a pen, coaxing him. “Ryan, once this is done, we can finally have our marking ceremony. We’ll be real mates.
He took the pen, but didn’t sign.
Instead, he shoved the whole thing into the shredder. His heavy gaze locked onto mine.
“Our contract isn’t up yet. Pay the penalty, and I’ll let you go.
He knew I couldn’t afford it.
But I was close. Two more weeks, and the thirty million I’d earned over three years would finally be paid off.
I’d never have to pretend to love him again.
