They faked Her Death For Months, When I Truly Died, They Went Mad Chapter 03

They faked Her Death For Months, When I Truly Died, They Went Mad Chapter 03

After leaving the Pack clinic, I went back to school first.

My advisor handed me the exchange paperwork, hesitating,

“Rhoslyn, have you really thought this through?”

“Yes.”

“Selene is in the program too. On Aurora Isle, you’ll run into each other.”

My hands stilled on the documents.

So the elaborate fake deaths weren’t just about being with her.

They’d wanted me to give up my exchange spot too.

My phone rang at that moment.

My mother cut straight to it. “Selene is in a fragile state. Give

her your Aurora Isle spot.”

Didn’t she already get in?”

*She wants a friend from Cael’s project group to go too.

Besides, you’ve been on leave so long, you wouldn’t keep up anyway.”

glanced at the selection list.

My name was still at the top.

I smiled.

“Fine.”

My mother’s voice relaxed immediately.

“That’s more like it. Come home tonight. We’ll have a

farewell dinner for Selene.”

“I meant she can keep dreaming.”

I hung up and switched off my phone.

My advisor stared at me, stunned.

signed my name and pushed the papers back.

Please confirm it for me today. The sooner, the better.”

After leaving the office, I went back to the dorm.

My fingerprint no longer opened the door.

The Residence Hall manager came out of the office.

Your family said you were going in for long–term treatment

and gave up your bed so Selene could store her things. She’s

leaving for Aurora Isle and has too much luggage for one closet.”

I looked in through the window in the door.

The photo on the desk had been replaced. My trophy sat

beside a trash bag, and a note was taped to the closet:

“Selene’s exchange supplies. Do not touch, Rhoslyn.”

Even my bed had become a place to pile her things.

The manager sighed.

“Is that fake–death prank by your mountaineering club still going on?”

whipped around.

You know about it too?”

“Everyone in the club does.” She looked awkward. “Your

brother sent e–gift cards in the group chat and asked

everyone to keep it from you. You kids went way too far, even

holding a fake memorial.”

So it wasn’t just my family.

The mountaineering club, the students, the dorm manager,

even the people who’d attended the “funeral”

knew.

everyone

Everyone took the gift cards and watched me keep vigil for

three living men, hug their photos and cry, and fall apart

again and again.

They probably thought it was funny.

I took my trophy back from beside the trash bag. I only

picked up my passport and laptop. I didn’t touch anything else.

Selene’s call came right then.

“Rhoslyn, can you give up the exchange spot? My friend really

needs it. And you’re not in a good place mentally. If

something happens to you on Aurora Isle, we’d all worry.”

I stopped at the top of the stairs.

“Selene, is lying fun?”

The line went quiet for a few seconds, and then her voice turned tearful.

You really do blame me. But they volunteered. I didn’t force

them. Rhoslyn, you already have so much. Why do you have

to fight me for this?”

“Don’t worry.” I looked at the flight details on the exchange

documents. “No one will fight you for anything anymore.”

That evening, I boarded the shuttle to Greyhaven Airport.

Before I left, I exited every PackLink group chat and sent my

advisor one last message.

Keep the exchange paperwork. If I don’t check in on time,

please process my withdrawal.”

Rain poured outside the window.

As the bus drove onto Ravenwater Bridge, the witch’s voice

suddenly came through the mind link.

The potion’s power will fade tonight. Rhoslyn, this is your last chance.”

The driver cranked the wipers to full speed. A sharp screech

of brakes cut through ahead, and a runaway truck smashed

through the barrier, its rear end whipping around and

slamming into the bus.

The cabin flipped. Glass burst everywhere.

My seatbelt slammed the air out of me, and half the bus was

hanging over the bridge. Someone was crying and calling

Pack rescue. People kept shouting their families‘ names.

I found my phone, its screen shattered.

For some reason, I still called Oren.

The first call, he hung up on me.

The second, Wilder did too.

Mistral’s call finally went through.

Mistral…”

I’d barely spoken when the bus slid farther toward the water,

and screams exploded through the cabin.

“My bus is in trouble. Ravenwater Bridge-”

Mistral was silent for two seconds, and when he spoke, there was only irritation.

Rhoslyn, are you done? Selene has been crying so hard she

can barely breathe because you won’t give up the spot. Now

you’re making up accidents. Do you think the whole world

revolves around you?”

I looked out the window.

The river churned below, closer and closer.

“This time it’s real.”

“Last time, with the avalanche, you were just as convinced.”

Cael laughed in the background.

Selene coaxed softly, “Mistral, don’t be harsh with her.

Rhoslyn probably just can’t bear to leave you all.”

Then Oren took the phone.

Rhoslyn, we’ll talk about the exchange spot later. Calm down.

Don’t keep using your life to threaten people.”

I didn’t explain.

only asked, “What if I really die?”

The other end paused for a moment.

Oren answered coldly, “Then I hope you follow through this time.”

The bus tore through the guardrail.

As it fell, I drank the bottle of blue–glowing potion.

Memories and bonds snapped apart at once from the depths

of my soul. My wolf howled in agony, but my body felt lighter than it ever had.

In the second before the water swallowed everything, the

witch’s voice pressed against my mind,

“The door is open.’

“Welcome home, Rhoslyn,”
