The Radio Secret – My Sister In Love with My Fiance Chapter 05
A hollow certainty settled in Logan’s chest: something vital was gone, and no amount of wanting would bring it back.
When Calista was released from the hospital, Logan drove her back to our shared apartment. He noticed instantly every trace of Rosie had vanished without a trace.
Her toiletries were gone from the bathroom sink, every piece of clothing cleared out of the master closet, her shoes wiped clean from the entryway shoe rack. Not a single thing that belonged to Rosie remained in the house.
“What’s this?” Calista picked up a white envelope left on the coffee table, and a bank card slid out, the
account password scribbled on the back in pen.
“It’s a letter from Rosie.”
The note was short, barely a handful of lines;
[I won’t be at the wedding. Logan, look after Calista. I hope you find peace.]
[This card holds the compensation from our old family home’s demolition–all of it’s for Calista.]
[Calista, your life is precious. Don’t ever try to hurt yourself again.]
Calista’s tears soaked straight through the stationery,
Calista was drowning in insecurity. She demanded hourly reassurances of his love, insisted he drop everything to drive her to and from campus every day,
and flew into hysterics if he didn’t reply to her texts within ten minutes–even when he explained he’d been stuck in emergency surgery.
Logan finally managed to rock her to sleep one night, sinking onto the couch alone. It was the only moment of quiet he got all day.
The wedding planner’s office called him, asking if they wanted to discard all the decorations and supplies
they’d reserved for the canceled ceremony.
“Mr. Black, Ms. Keith filmed a short bridal clip for us before the wedding. Should we delete that footage as well?”
They sent the video to Logan’s phone. It was filmed on the day they’d shot their engagement portraits.
Logan remembered that night vividly. He’d told Calista he planned to confess everything to Rosie, and she’d cried for hours straight, forcing him to comfort her all night long.
He’d been drained and distracted the next day during
the photoshoot, but Rosie hadn’t uttered a single word of complaint—instead, she’d apologized for rushing the wedding plans so quickly.
On screen, Rosie walked slowly along the beach in her white wedding gown, turning to face the camera with a radiant, genuine smile.
“Logan, thank you. Thank you for walking into my life and pulling me out of all my old pain.”
“Thank you for choosing me so firmly, for putting up with every stubborn, irrational part of me.”
“I used to curse fate for handing me such a cruel, hard life when I was young–but I don’t anymore. Fate gave
me you, and that’s more than enough.”
“I have you, I have Calista, I have our home. I’m truly happy.”
A faint, shy blush tinted her cheeks, unused to pouring her heart out on camera. “Logan… I love you.”
Logan watched the clip on loop, Rosie’s smile sharp against the dark screen. His chest tightened–with pain and the weight of what he’d thrown away.
She’d waited so eagerly for that wedding, dreamed endlessly about building a life with him—and he’d destroyed every bit of that future all by himself.
He’d pulled her out of years of darkness, only to shove her back into crushing despair once she’d finally found joy. And her flesh and blood sister, had helped tear everything apart alongside him.
“Logan? What are you watching?” Calista stood in the bedroom doorway, awake again after hearing the audio from his phone.
Her eyes narrowed sharply. “You’re watching Rosie’s video. Are you still hung up on her?“
Logan tried to hide his bloodshot eyes, but Calista sprinted over and snatched his phone, hurling it full force against the living room wall. She hurled it against the wall–once, twice–until the screen spiderwebbed and the phone died.
“Why do you still think about her when I’m right here with you?!” Calista grabbed at his shirt, breaking down into sobs. “Let’s get married tomorrow–let’s go sign our marriage license first thing in the morning!”
“She stepped back for us. She said she wants us to be together!”
Logan’s jaw clenched tight. “She only left because you threatened to take your own life!”
“Calista, she’s suffering terribly—that’s why she volunteered for Doctors Without Borders. Do you have any idea how dangerous that work overseas is?”
“I never threatened her! All I did was step aside to let them be happy–I was willing to die for their marriage!”
“Why the night before the wedding? Of all nights, why that one?” Logan gripped her shoulders gently but firmly.
Calista fell silent, fat tears rolling down her cheeks nonstop.
“We can’t move forward without carrying this weight between us,” Logan said, releasing his hold on her arms. “Not until we know Rosie’s safe back home.”
He turned and headed for the front door, and Calista scrambled to grab his wrist before he could leave.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to find her. I need to see with my own eyes that she’s safe.”
Calista’s fingers slipped free, unable to hold him back. “Logan… do you still love me?”
Logan didn’t answer. He walked out, his silence the only reply she’d ever get.
