The Nobody He Killed was Royalty Chapter 07

The Nobody He Killed was Royalty Chapter 07

Freya’s POV

I laugh, cold and sharp. “The baby? You think you get to ask about him?”

Adrian’s face drains of color.

“I know… I know I hurt you. And the baby died because of me.” His voice shakes. “But I’ll make it to you. I swear.”

Make it up? Seriously?

Does he really think a few words can erase everything?

up

“Died?” I stare at him. “Who told you my baby died?”

Adrian freezes.

I nod at the old steward.

The steward turns and walks into a room. A moment later, he comes back out carrying a small bundle wrapped in blankets.

The baby sleeps soundly, his breath steady.

Even as an infant, I can see he’s all me. Healthy.

Strong. Aside from Adrian’s blood running through him, there’s nothing serpent about him.

Adrian sees the baby and goes completely still.

“Is… is that my son?”

“No.” My voice comes out calm. “He has nothing to do with you.”

“The moment you chose to believe Seraphina and left me to suffer alone, you stopped being anything to us.”

I look at him and feel nothing.

“I’ll raise him myself. Leave.”

Adrian lurches to his feet.

“No! I’m not leaving. I’m taking you home!”

He grabs my wrist suddenly, crushing it. “That’s why I came here. I don’t care what you’re saying. I’m not letting you go again!”

It’s almost funny.

Does he still think he’s some powerful serpent chief who can do whatever he wants?

The old steward and a few kitchen staff rush forward.

“Sir, let her go!” The steward’s voice turns sharp.”

You have no idea who she is!”

One of the cooks pulls out a communication crystal.

Sir, please come home quickly. Someone’s trying to take Miss Freya away.”

Adrian ignores them completely.

He laughs, ugly and bitter, looking around. “Sir? So that’s how you got into a place like this. Found yourself someone new already?”

“Faked your death just to ditch me and latch onto someone richer? You really are the kind of woman who’ll do anything for status.”

His eyes are nothing but mocking.

“But that’s okay. I’ll do the same. I can give you everything you want too.”

He starts pulling me toward the door.

I don’t budge.

He pulls harder.

still don’t move.

Adrian’s expression darkens. Furious now, he tries to lift me.

I throw him over my shoulder. He hits the floor hard.

Adrian lies there groaning.

I look down at him and almost want to laugh. Two months of training paid off. I’m not that woman he could push around anymore.

I stand over him. “Think I’m still that pathetic fool who did whatever you said? Dream on.”

Adrian struggles to his feet, anger flashing in his eyes.

The next second, he lunges at the steward, rips the baby from his arms, and bolts for the door.

“I’ve got the baby! You’re coming home with me!”

“Adrian!”

I scream and run after him as fast as I can.

Just as he reaches the door, it slams open. Someone moves like lightning.

Before Adrian can react, the figure kicks him square in the chest. He goes flying and crashes to the floor.

The figure catches the baby smoothly.

It’s my father.

He made it in time.

Father hands me the baby carefully. My hands shake as I take him and hold him close.

Guards rush in and haul Adrian to his feet.

Father walks up to Adrian, fury burning in his eyes.

“Adrian.” His voice drops low and dangerous. “You did this to my daughter, and I haven’t even come for you yet. But here you are, walking right through my door.”

He punches Adrian in the gut.

Adrian coughs up blood. He looks up, finally sees my father’s face, and his eyes go wide.

“You’re… Mr. Sterling? Freya’s really your daughter?”

“That’s right.” Father’s voice stays cold.

He pulls out his communication crystal. “Effective immediately, cut all business ties with the serpent.

clan.”

Adrian’s face goes ashen.

He finally gets it.

Everything those people said was true. Just not quite the way he imagined.

Father turns to look at me. “Still want to see him?”

I wrinkle my nose in disgust. “No.”

I can’t stand the sight of him.

Father nods at the guards. “Dump him outside the border. Don’t let him back into clan territory.”
