The Kingmaker My Fiance Sold Me To My Broke Ex Chapter 08

Rain hammered against the floor–to–ceiling windows of the Manhattan penthouse as I handed Alvin the last set of restructuring documents for Evra Holdings.

Over the past few months, we had worked in perfect sync, dismantling the business empires of Pioneer Group and Grant Group piece by piece.

Just as Alvin was about to sign the papers, his phone rang. After hearing the brief report on the other end, his expression darkened.

“Vic escaped custody.” Alvin shot to his feet, grabbed his gun, and slammed a magazine into place with practiced ease. “Someone tampered with his prison transport while he was being moved to the Metro- politan Correctional Center. Eve, get your coat. We’re relocating to the safe house in Long Island right now.‘

But fate didn’t leave us enough time to get out.

Bang!

The front door was kicked open with brutal force.

Vic stood there drenched in blood, gripping a knife tightly in his right hand.

“Eve! I told you! I’d come back and kill you myself!”

He charged straight at me.

Without hesitation, Alvin stepped in front of me and drove a hard kick into Vic’s chest.

Vic had completely lost his mind. He wasn’t even trying to defend himself anymore–just throwing everything into a suicidal attack. The blade sliced across Alvin’s arm in an instant.

“Alvin!” I cried out.

I couldn’t let Alvin bleed for me again.

My eyes locked on the steep marble staircase at the edge of the room, and I forced myself to stay calm through the chaos.

At once, I put on a terrified expression, wrapped my arms around my head, and stumbled backward in panic until my heels hit the edge of the stairs.

Help… Vic, please, stay away from me!”

At the sight of me looking weak and defenseless, Vic shoved the wounded Alvin aside, raised the hunting

knife high, and came at me with everything he had. “Die, you bitch!”

Just as the blade was about to plunge into me, I twisted out of the way. Using the full momentum of his lunge against him, I kicked the back of his knee.

Vic went tumbling down the stairs.

Crack-

He landed in a twisted heap on the entry hall floor below.

Forty–eight hours later, intensive care.

Wearing sterile hospital gear, I stood calmly beside Vic’s bed.

The fall had left him a high–level quadriplegic. Lying there, the only part of his body he could still move was his eyes.

I bent down and whispered, “You destroyed my family, Vic. So I destroyed your life. This is how the Rockwoods end your story.”

I pulled the ventilator tube free from his airway.

The shrill alarm of the monitors filled the room. The jagged line on the heart monitor flattened into a single tone.

Then I turned and walked out.

‘wo months later, Wall Street, New York Stock Exchange.

Today, Evra Holdings was officially renamed Rockwood group.

My father’s name had returned, once again, to the financial heart of Manhattan.

As the new chairwoman of the board, I stood on the bell–ringing balcony and looked down over the roaring trading floor below. Just ten minutes after the opening bell, Rockwood Group’s stock price shot upward like a rocket, crushing every expectation on Wall Street.

drew in a shaky breath, tears burning in my eyes.

Alvin stepped up beside me and handed me a handkerchief.

“If he could see today, he’d be proud of you,” he said. “You did it, Eve. You took back everything that belonged to you with your own hands.”

I took the handkerchief, wiped my eyes, and turned to Look at him. “We did it, Alvin.”

The next day, at a private chapel by the harbor in the Hamptons,

I wore a wedding dress and carried a bouquet of roses as I walked slowly toward Alvin at the end of the aisle.

He held my hands tightly. “Six years ago, fate forced ou into your choice. But this time, Eve… you chose ime, without hesitation.”

met his gaze and clasped his broad hands in return. “We’re not who we were anymore, Alvin. That weak girl who tried to save herself through marriage died on the cliffside of Paradise Island,”

The sea breeze drifted through the half–open wooden doors, lifting the long white train of my veil.

Beside that endless blue shore, as if the whole world, had opened itself to us, Alvin lowered his head and kissed me deeply.

THE END
