The Kingmaker My Fiance Sold Me To My Broke Ex Chapter 06

I took a slow breath and pulled a phone from my soaked pocket–the one I’d lifted during my fight with Chloe in the woods. I tapped open the voice message she hadn’t had time to delete.

Vic’s voice blasted out at once: “Take Eve to the cliff and finish it there. Make it clean. Make it look like she slipped and fell trying to run.”

At last, something in Alvin’s expression cracked. His hands clenched into fists without him seeming to realize it.

But he covered it almost immediately. “Five years ago, you sold me out to keep your designer bags and your fancy Upper East Side apartment,” he said coldly. ” You ground what was left of my pride into the dirt. So now–what makes you think I’d risk anything for you?

met his gaze calmly. “I never asked you to forgive me, Alvin,” I said softly. “You can turn around and walk out right now. We can pretend tonight never happened.”

He went still.

For a full ten seconds, neither of us moved. Then, with a muttered “Goddammit,” he grabbed my arm and hauled me outside.

An hour later, Vance Capital’s private helicopter touched down. During the flight, one of his security specialists had already removed the explosive ankle monitor from my leg with swift, practiced precision.

The moment I stepped into that luxurious office floating above the clouds, with a view over all of Wall

Street, I finally understood just how much power Alvin had now.

“You did it, Alvin,” I murmured, staring out the window. “You built an empire.”

He walked over carrying two glasses of whiskey on the rocks and shoved one into my hand, the corner of his mouth lifting in a mocking smile. “I really should thank you, Eve. If you hadn’t taught me with your own hands that in this world, without money and power, you’re worth less than a dog, I never would’ve gotten this far.”

My hand jerked, and I had no answer.

He didn’t press the point. Instead, he strode back to his desk and tapped a few commands into the terminal.

“I had my hacker team break into the sealed archives, he said. “Weren’t you dying to know who destroyed the Rockwood family?”

A file popped up on the screen immediately. I leaned in.

At the top of the money trail was a name I knew all too well:

Arthur Grant, Chairman of Grant Group.

The old man my father had treated like a trusted friend had been Vic’s biggest backer all along!

“A year and three months ago, Grant Group quietly cut off your father’s offshore funding,” Alvin said, pointing to the transaction records. “Vic, playing the inside man, shorted your family’s stock. And as for Vic proposing to you, it had nothing to do with saving

you. Under the terms of the trust, the moment you married him, he would’ve become your legal spouse and gained quiet control of the fifty–million–dollar trust fund under your name.”

So that was the truth.

The elder I thought I could rely on was a cold–blooded butcher. The lifeline I thought I could grab was just a parasite waiting to drain the last drop of blood from me.

covered my face and broke down sobbing–for my father’s brutal death, for my family’s ruin, and for my own stupidity in being blinded by lies.

Then I wiped the tears from my cheeks hard. “I want all of them to pay. Arthur, Vic, and Chloe… I want them bankrupt. I want to watch them rot in hell!”

Alvin looked at me for a moment, then pulled up another set of surveillance footage. “Vic’s so–called Paradise Island looks like a playground for the ultra-

rich on the surface, but behind the scenes, it’s been used for human trafficking and money laundering this whole time. The only reason he had the nerve to come beg me this time was because he wanted to use Vance Capital’s international shipping network to move his dirty cargo.”

He turned around and braced both hands on the edge of the desk.

“Listen carefully, Eve,” he said, each word sharp and deliberate. “I didn’t dig all this up to save you, and I sure as hell didn’t do it for your family’s sad little old grudge. I did it because this gives me the chance to crush Grant Group, stomp these Wall Street parasites into the dirt, and swallow their territory whole.”

“The reason doesn’t matter, Alvin.” I tossed back the est of the whiskey in my glass. “As long as we want the same thing, that’s enough.”
