The images kept cycling on the big screen.
Then came a recording-
“If you’d met me first, would you still have chosen Janet as your
mate? Don’t stress–just asking.”
Waldo answered. “It’s not about who came first.”
“Oh…” Flora’s voice dropped, clearly disappointed.
Waldo chuckled. “I’m saying–it doesn’t matter if you came a little later.”
Someone in the crowd gasped.
Others pulled out their phones, secretly recording.
Flora froze for a moment, then her eyes welled up, tears streaming
down like broken pearls.
“Janet…” Her voice trembled, full of grievance. “Why are you doing
this to me? We’ve been friends for ten years.”
She looked pitiful, but the pack members showed no sympathy.
“Ruining a friend’s relationship–she’s insane!”
“Isn’t this just betrayal?”
“If this hadn’t been exposed today, who knows how much longer
Janet would’ve been kept in the dark.”
Flora turned to Waldo for help. “Please tell them for me.”
Waldo’s face tightened. He strode over to me in an instant.
“Janet, have you lost your mind?”
“I’ve told you a thousand times–there’s nothing between us! Why won’t you believe me?”
“Playing this at the mate ceremony–do you know what kind of
damage this will do to Duskclaw Pack?!”
“Waldo!” A commanding voice cut through.
Waldo’s father–the former Alpha of Duskclaw Pack–strode forward.
He had always been the most gentle and fair elder in the pack.
Now his face was red with fury. He raised his hand and slapped Waldo hard across the face.
“Apologize. Now.” The elder’s voice trembled. “Apologize to your Luna!”
Waldo clutched his cheek, staring at his father in disbelief. “Dad, she was the one who-”
“I said apologize!” The former Alpha kicked him in the shin.
“Janet loved you for years. As an Alpha, how could you let your Luna suffer such humiliation in front of the entire pack?”
Waldo’s lips twitched. He looked at me, then at Flora, sobbing in the crowd.
Finally, through gritted teeth, he muttered, “I’m sorry.”
Flora’s small figure immediately rushed in front of him.
“It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have been involved in the alliance plan.
I shouldn’t have stood out so much.”
“I knew Janet was always the best. She can’t stand anyone being better than her…”
Even now, she was trying to spin it as jealousy.
I laughed.
“I have a record of every step of the Blackwood Pack alliance.”
“Should I call the Alpha King right now and ask his opinion?”
Flora’s eyes darted away. She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Everyone could see how uneasy she was.
Waldo instinctively pulled her closer.
One of the elders rose and tried to ease the tension.
“The ceremony has already taken place. You’ll be living together from now on.
“Janet, you’re now the Luna of Duskclaw Pack. You should be more forgiving.”
“I’m not the Luna.” I stepped forward and took the microphone.
What I said next stunned every wolf in the temple.
“I already dissolved the mate bond with Waldo!”
They kept pressuring me to give in, to compromise. I refused.
Waldo betrayed me first. Why should I be the one to endure all the pain?
For a moment, there was only silence.
“A month ago, I filed to dissolve the bond. He didn’t take it seriously.”
“I came to this ceremony today for one reason–to tell every member of this pack the truth.”
