The Billionaire Family Who Kept Me For Luck And Learned To Fear Me Chapter 05

The surgeon shook his head.

“This isn’t about money. She lost too much blood, and we’ve

done everything we can. The rest depends on her will to survive.”

Conrad struck the surgeon’s arm with his cane.

“If she doesn’t wake up, I’ll shut this entire hospital down!”

The surgeon and nurses recoiled in shock.

Elliot hurried over and pulled Conrad away from the surgeon.

Mr. Whitmore is distraught, but that doesn’t excuse what he

did. Please accept my apology.”

He handed the surgeon his business card.

Thank you for everything. We’ve had dinner sent to the staff

lounge. If hospital administration needs to reach me about

what just happened, call me directly.”

The medical staff remained wary, but Elliot’s intervention

kept the confrontation from escalating.

After defusing the confrontation, Elliot helped Conrad toward

the private patient rooms.

‘Mr. Whitmore, Aurelia needs to rest.”

Then he lowered his voice.

“Vivian, Adrian, Victor, and Helen are getting worse. You need

to see them yourself.”

Elliot took Conrad to Vivian’s room.

Vivian’s face was swathed in bandages, with only her eyes,

nose, and mouth left uncovered.

Elliot explained what the doctors had told him.

“The doctors have tried every treatment they can think of,

but the wounds keep decaying.”

“For now, all they can do is keep the wounds bandaged to

limit the blood loss.”

Vivian pushed herself upright the moment Conrad entered.

Tears mingled with blood and soaked the gauze around her face.

Grandfather, you were the one who brought Aurelia here

from the sanctuary. You must know how to cure me, right?”

“I know I was wrong. I’ll apologize. I’ll beg Aurelia to forgive me.”

Please heal my face. Don’t let me be disfigured. I’ll stop

fighting over the family fortune. I won’t ask for anything else.”

Conrad said nothing and moved on to Adrian’s room.

Adrian’s right hand had already been amputated, but the

damage continued to spread.

He lay motionless in bed. The bones through half his body

had begun to twist, while the muscles beneath his skin writhed like worms.

He struggled to speak.

“Is Aurelia… dead? If she’s alive, I need to see her. I need to beg her to forgive me.”

“Grandfather, I let greed blind me. I never would’ve hurt

Aurelia otherwise. I truly regret it.”

Conrad sighed and moved on to the last room.

Victor and Helen lay motionless in a glass–fronted isolation

room, wrapped so heavily in bandages that they resembled mummies.

Helen grew agitated when she saw Conrad. She tried to speak,

but only ragged, wordless cries came out.

Victor stared blankly at the ceiling.

A doctor in protective gear explained their condition.

Both patients are experiencing widespread skin necrosis. It

has spread to their throats, leaving them unable to speak.”

We’ve sent tissue samples to the lab. We suspect some kind

of virus, but we won’t know for certain until the results come back.”

Conrad nodded without speaking.

Only after he and Elliot reached an empty corridor did Conrad sink onto a bench.

“Elliot, is the Whitmore family really finished?”

Elliot lowered his head.

“If Aurelia wakes up, we could have all four of them apologize

and beg her forgiveness. She may be able to turn this around.”

“Their conditions are tied to what they did to Aurelia. She may know how to stop it.”

Conrad let out a long sigh.

“Let’s hope so.”

But he didn’t believe it would be that easy.

He knew better than anyone that he had threatened Mara to

force Aurelia into the pact and into the Whitmore family.

Aurelia had no affection for any of the Whitmores.

Expecting her to forgive the people who had nearly killed her

was nothing more than wishful thinking.

A week later, Elliot rushed into Conrad’s office.

The hospital just called. Aurelia’s awake.”
