The Billionaire Family Who Kept Me For Luck And Learned To Fear Me Chapter 03

The Billionaire Family Who Kept Me For Luck And Learned To Fear Me Chapter 03

Vivian writhed on the floor, clutching her head and screaming.

The others watched and whispered among themselves.

What’s wrong with Vivian? She was fine a minute ago.”

She doesn’t look like she’s faking it.”

Don’t forget what happened when her father tried to send

her overseas. She faked a coma and stayed in the hospital for

three months. If she hadn’t been caught sneaking food at

night, she might still be lying there.”

That changed the way everyone looked at her.

Not one person stepped forward to help.

Vivian forced herself onto one elbow. The moment she saw

my faint smile, fear flooded her eyes.

“It’s you! Aurelia, you’re doing this!”

I gave her my most innocent look.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, Vivian.”

If she couldn’t handle even this much pain, she wasn’t going to last much longer.

Her face contorted, and her words came out in broken gasps.

“My head is splitting in the exact same place you were

injured. What kind of black magic did you use on me?”

“Aurelia! Stop this, or I swear I’ll kill you!”

Adrian stared hard at Vivian.

“What do you mean?”

Vivian could barely breathe.

“Whatever we do to her comes back on us—a thousand, maybe even ten thousand, times worse.”

Get me to a hospital. I can’t take this…”

Adrian’s confidence faltered. He rubbed the hand that had held the knife.

Nora kept pressure on my wound with the handkerchief.

“We need to get her to a hospital. Aurelia’s still bleeding.‘

Adrian hesitated for only a few seconds.

“Take Vivian and Aurelia to the hospital.”

Victor stepped in front of him.

You two already got what you wanted. Now that it’s our turn you’re putting on an act?”

“You’re not taking her anywhere. Helen and I aren’t that easy to fool.”

Irritation flashed in Adrian’s eyes.

“We’ll find out soon enough whether Vivian is faking.”

“And if she’s telling the truth, we’ll be saving you from making the same mistake.”

Victor started to object, but Helen cut him off.

“We’ll keep an eye on them. They can’t get away, and Vivian doesn’t look like she’s pretending.”

At the hospital, a doctor treated the wound on my arm.

By the time Vivian was taken into an exam room, she had lost consciousness.

Nora stayed beside me and spoke softly.

Don’t be afraid, Aurelia. Elliot will find a way to warn Mr. Whitmore. He’ll come back for you.”

I nodded.

Nora was the only person in that family who had ever truly cared about me,

But I couldn’t tell her the truth.

The Whitmores only knew that Conrad had humbled himself

at the mountain sanctuary before bringing me home as his adopted daughter and giving me the Whitmore name,

He gave me the finest clothes, every comfort money could buy, and the life of an envied young New York socialite.

What they didn’t know was that Conrad had threatened the life of my mentor, Mara Shaw, and forced me into a pact.

It bound me to the Whitmore family for life.

The only way to break it was for one of the Whitmores to nearly kill me.

All I had to do was tempt them with enough money.

knew their greed wouldn’t let them stop before someone. went too far.

Then everything they had done to me would come back on them.

Vivian’s test results came back soon after.

The doctor studied her chart.

Her scans show no abnormalities. The pain may be

psychosomatic, so I’d recommend a psychiatric evaluation.”

Vivian went pale.

How is that possible…?”

The sedative and pain medication stopped her headache, but she couldn’t shake the memory of it.

Once it was clear Vivian wasn’t in immediate danger, Adrian relaxed.

“You probably gave yourself a stress headache, If one minor injury could really do this, do you think Grandfather would still be alive after three years?”

Victor burst into the room and grabbed me by the arm,

“Vivian and Adrian got their share. Now it’s our turn.”

Victor and Helen had their guards force me out of the hospital and take me back to the Whitmore estate.

This time, they locked me in the dark basement.

It was the family’s private punishment room, built with walls

thick enough to swallow every sound.

Victor stood over me with a club in his hand.

“Don’t blame us, Aurelia. Conrad doesn’t get to keep all the

money for himself. The rest of us deserve a cut.”

He brought the club down hard across my back.

A scream tore from my throat as I curled up on the floor.

Victor drew the club back for another blow, but Helen stopped him.

“Victor, isn’t one hit enough? Vivian and Adrian only hurt her once each.”

Victor snapped at her.

Think. The worse the injury, the bigger the payoff.”

Vivian smashed her head into the floor, and the projected

profits from her deals only doubled.”

“Adrian stabbed her arm, and a multimillion–dollar deal that

had been impossible to close fell right into his lap.”

He struck me across the back again.

Blood filled my mouth. I couldn’t even scream.

Victor kept talking as if nothing had happened.

“Conrad said whoever brought this family the most money

would take control of Whitmore Holdings.”

“My side of the family has spent years being pushed aside. It’s

time our son had a real chance to take over.”

Helen said nothing.

She picked up a second club.

Together, they beat me without mercy.

By the time they finally stopped, I had lost track of how long it had been.

I lay there with my clothes soaked in blood, my lips pressed tight, refusing to make another sound.

Through the pain, I felt the pact’s hold on me begin to weaken.

Helen crouched to check my breathing.

“Good. She’s still alive. She’s just unconscious.”

Victor’s phone chimed, and he stared at the screen.

“We got news!”

Remember that worthless property we bought three ago? The one Conrad called a complete loss?” years

“They found something incredibly valuable beneath it.”

“We’ve already been approached about a partnership. They say our share could be worth half the Whitmore fortune.”

Helen’s face lit up.

“If this goes through, the Whitmore family will be ours.”

Before they could celebrate, the basement door was kicked open.

Vivian and Adrian stormed in, each with a security team of their own.

We heard the same news you did,” Vivian said.

Adrian held a small knife at his side.

“Don’t think one lucky break puts the family in your hands.

We’re not out of the running.”

Vivian frowned when she saw me on the floor.

You went too far. How are you going to explain this when Grandfather gets back?”

Victor gave a cold laugh.

Explain what? Once this deal closes, Conrad will have no

choice but to put my side of the family in charge.”

Adrian lunged at me with the knife.

“Keep dreaming.”

Victor’s guards intercepted him.

Vivian’s guards and Adrian’s guards immediately joined the fight.

Soon, all three groups were brawling.

Vivian shouted over the chaos.

I discovered the secret! The biggest payoff belongs to me!”

Adrian laughed.

You’re a woman. The only thing you’re good for is marrying

into another powerful family. I’m the heir.”

Victor and Helen shouted back.

Our son is the only one fit to take over!”

In the middle of the chaos, I opened my eyes.

Maybe the adrenaline kept them from feeling the changes.

None of them had noticed what was happening to their own bodies.

Rot had begun spreading from the centers of Victor’s and Helen’s palms.

Something writhed beneath the skin of Vivian’s forehead.

Adrian’s right hand, still wrapped around the knife, had begun to twist out of shape.

Still, they kept fighting over who would hurt me next.

Then Conrad’s roar thundered down the basement stairwell.

“Enough! All of you, stop!”

“Are you trying to destroy this entire family?”

As everyone froze, Adrian tightened his grip and drove the knife into me.

Red bloomed across my chest.

Conrad rushed into the basement. The moment he saw the

knife buried in my chest, his face went white.

“It’s over. Everything is over!”
