The Alpha’s Regret: Two Lives, One Mistake Chapter 07
Winter always comes early in the Northern Wastes. I stood atop the ice fortress walls, watching the convoy slowly approaching in the distance.
Crimson family banners fluttered in the bitter wind- the Ravenspire Pack had arrived.
Viktor approached from behind. “Luna Queen, they‘ ve crossed the border.”
“Let them witness the new order.” My voice was perfectly calm.
The car door opened, and the moment Lucas stepped
out, he looked up toward the ramparts. Three months had passed, and he appeared haggard, but when he caught sight of my figure, his face went deathly pale.
“Elena…” His voice couldn’t carry far, but I heard it clearly.
Just then, three thousand Northern Pack Warriors poured out from every direction, their silver armor gleaming in the sunlight. They formed perfect ranks
and roared in unison:
“Long live Luna Elena!”
The thunderous sound was so powerful that Lucas’s retinue behind him could barely keep their footing.
In the throne hall, crystal chandeliers cast a gentle glow. I wore a deep blue royal robe and a moonstone crown, sitting regally upon the Luna’s Throne.
Damon was already waiting for me, those familiar silver eyes holding their gentle warmth.
“Bring them in.”
The great doors opened, and Lucas was escorted in by the guards. Seeing me seated on the throne, his eyes. flashed with tremendous shock.
“Kneel before the Luna Queen.” The guard captain’s voice brooked no argument.
Kieran and the others dropped to their knees almost immediately, but Lucas hesitated. He stared at me, his eyes filled with too many complex emotions.
“Lucas,” I spoke, “surprised?”
He finally knelt, his voice trembling: “Elena… how could you… weren’t you at the Blood Moon Altar…”
I didn’t answer directly, simply rising slowly: “Did you really think I would die there?”
“But… but that ritual…” His voice shook, “Viktor said once it began, it couldn’t be stopped. I felt our bond break…”
“The bond did break.” I descended the steps, each footfall steady and deliberate. “I severed it myself.”
“Elena, I was wrong. I truly know I was wrong…” His voice carried desperate tears.
He wanted to say more, but I continued: “You’ll never understand–the moment you chose to let go of my hand, I was already dead.”
I raised my scepter, and a scrying pool appeared in the center of the hall. The water’s surface shimmered,
revealing a dark dungeon where Sarah lay shackled in silver chains, gaunt and wasted.
“This is your ‘true love’s‘ current state.” My voice held not a trace of emotion.
Seeing Sarah in the vision, Lucas cried out in anguish:
“Sarah!”
“Elena, I know the truth now. I know she deceived me, hurt you. Please spare her–I’ll trade anything for her life.”
“Anything?” I turned to look at him. “Lucas, what do you have left?”
At that moment, Damon stepped to my side. His aura instantly filled the entire hall, forcing everyone to bow their heads.
“Elena is the only Luna I acknowledge.” His voice was deep and commanding. “Anyone who has hurt her will pay the price.”
Only now did Lucas realize Damon’s identity, his face growing even paler: “Lycan King…”
“Exactly.” I returned to the throne. “I am his mate,
Luna of the Northern Wastes. And you are merely a visitor come to seek audience.”
Silence fell over the hall. I looked down at Lucas kneeling on the ground one final time.
“By my authority as Luna of the Northern Wastes Pack, I hereby decree-” My voice echoed through the hall, “You and the Ravenspire Pack are forever banned from Northern Wastes territory. Violators will be killed on sight.”
Lucas reached out desperately: “Elena, I love you…‘
I rose to my feet, looking down at him from my height: “Lucas, you never loved me–you loved the Elena who obeyed your every word. The woman I am now is someone you can never have.”
“Now, leave my territory.”
The guards stepped forward. Lucas struggled frantically as he was dragged away, his nails scraping harsh sounds against the stone floor: “Elena! Please give me one more chance… I can do anything for you!”
As he was pulled through the doors, his voice broke beyond recognition, leaving only desperate sobs echoing in the corridors.
The doors closed. All fell quiet.
Damon approached my side: “How do you feel?”
I looked at him, a genuine smile curving my lips: ”
Perfect.”
Snow danced outside the windows. I remembered that night three months ago at the Blood Moon Altar. That Elena had indeed died–the woman now seated on this throne was reborn anew.
