She Catfished The Don As Me, Now She Regrets It Chapter 03
I grabbed my credit card and headed for the store exit.
Livia completely panicked behind me.
If this birthday party went ahead, every prominent family would be
there, and Caius would definitely show up too.
He would finally realize she had been lying to him.
Caius had a notoriously bad temper..
The moment he appeared, the entire New York underworld would
tremble in fear.
I heard her quick, shallow breathing.
From the corner of my eye, I saw her pale face and let a mocking
smile curve my lips.
“Caterina, Livia rushed after me. “What’s going on with you? You’ve
never liked this stuff before. You always said parties were too
exhausting. You said you hated socializing. Why the sudden change
I stared at her. “I’m just throwing myself a birthday party. Why are
you so nervous?”
Livia froze.
Seeing my half–smile, anger flashed across her face.
She stamped her foot. “No. I won’t allow it.”
She stepped closer and grabbed my wrist, speaking rapidly. “If you
suddenly throw a birthday party now, everyone will think your low
profile was all an act. You know everything you do reflects on the
Valenti family. Dad just started letting you handle family business,
and now you’re being this flashy? You’ll embarrass the entire
Valenti name.”
“Plus, you turned down so many invitations before, saying you
didn’t like socializing. If you throw your own party now, what will
they think? They’ll think you looked down on them all along and
were deliberately putting on airs.”
“Caterina, I’m only looking out for you.”
I looked down at the hand gripping my wrist.
Her nails were freshly manicured–paid for with my money last
month.
The ring on her finger was the birthday gift I gave her last year.
The watch on her wrist was a limited–edition piece my mom had
brought back from Switzerland.
She said she liked it, so I took it off and gave it to her.
Everything she wore, from head to toe, had originally been mine.
And now she was using those same hands covered in my things to
stop me from taking back what was mine.
I let out a cold laugh. “Oh? But I’ve already sent out the invitations.”
“What?” Livia gasped, her voice shaking. “Who did you send them
to?”
I pretended to think. “The Voss family. And the Romano family, of
course. Of course I invited the Romano family too. With me there,
Caius won’t look down on you.”
Seeing her look like she might collapse, I pulled open the car door
and got in.
Livia spent the rest of the day completely distracted.
That night, as I lay in bed, I heard a phone call coming from the
room next door.
“Baby, I heard you’re throwing a birthday party. Why didn’t you tell
me sooner?”
Livia tried to sound calm. “I figured you’d be back in New York next
week anyway. It’s no big deal, honey. You don’t have to come.”
“How could I miss it?” Caius replied seriously. “It’s your birthday. I
already bought my ticket. I’ll be there right on time for the party.”
Livia’s heart tightened. She opened her mouth to protest, but Caius
had already hung up.
“No,” she muttered. “I can’t just sit back and wait. This birthday party has to become mine.”
I let out a mocking laugh.
Can’t sit and wait?
I’d like to see what you can actually pull off.
Three days later, the birthday party began.
Every prominent family in New York’s underworld, along with
several senators and politicians, was in attendance.
“Caterina, it’s time to change.” Livia pushed open the door, holding a glass of orange juice.
She was dressed to the nines in a stunning gown and flawless
makeup, looking more like the star of the birthday party than I did.
