Oops… My New CEO Saw Me in a Towel Chapter 09
I tightened my grip on Harrison’s arm and tried to steer
us away. The last thing I needed was Harrison finding out how bad my taste used to be.
“Just because I dumped you doesn’t mean you have to
scrape the bottom of the barrel. What is he, like forty?”
Please. He was the only blind one here. And where did he get the nerve to talk down to Harrison?
“Trevor, maybe keep your girlfriend on a leash. She hasn’t
stopped staring at my boyfriend since the two of you
walked over.”
Trevor froze. He looked down at his girlfriend, who was
still openly gawking at Harrison. He shoved her aside,
stepped toward me, and sneered.
“You always acted so innocent, but here you are hanging
all over some old guy in public, Guess the good-girl act
was exactly that — an act.”
“If I’d known you were this easy, I wouldn’t have wasted a
year chasing you. Could’ve just opened my wallet.”
Fuck. This absolute piece of shit.
My eyes locked on the açaí bowl in Harrison’s hand. I was
about to grab it and dump it over Trevor’s head.
Harrison caught my hand and squeezed – steady, calm.
Then the corner of his mouth lifted into something that wasn’t quite a smile. It was ice.
With his free hand, Harrison pulled out his phone and dialed – right there, looking Trevor straight in the eye.
Trevor went white.
“Richard. I just had the pleasure of running into your son. I have to say – your family’s manners leave something to be desired.”
“I’m not comfortable attaching Sterling Corporation’s name to a family that can’t keep its house in order. The
Crestwood project is over.”
“My secretary will reach out first thing in the morning to handle the paperwork.”
So that’s how a grown man handled things. No yelling, no fists-just one phone call and total annihilation, God, it
was satisfying,
Trevor’s face drained of color. His mouth opened, but before a word came out, his phone started shrieking. Even though he wasn’t on speaker, I could hear his father tearing into him from three feet away,
Harrison pulled me past Trevor without slowing down. His
voice was pure frost. “You had a bright future ahead of you, kid, Emphasis on had.”
I was still dazed when we got back in the car. That whole
scene had done something to me,
After a long moment, Harrison leaned across the console, pressed his forehead to mine, and nuzzled my cheek.
“Happy now?”
Yes. No one ever got tired of being chosen. Before I could
stop myself, my arms were around his neck and I was
kissing him – softly, barely brave enough to mean it.
“Harrison, thank you. And I’m sorry – for having such awful taste in men, for dragging you into that mess today.”
Before I could finish, his lips pressed gently against my closed eyes.
“You weren’t blind. And honestly? I should thank him. If he
hadn’t been so blind, I never would’ve stood a chance.”
My eyes stung, I buried my face in his chest and held on,
For a moment, everything was warm and still and exactly right.
“Come home with me tonight. I want to see you in that
little set I picked out,” A pause, “Hmm?”
And just like that – the moment shattered. Harrison was
still a menace.
