My Son Calls Another Woman Mom Chapter 05
By the time Elijah comes out of the room, it’s almost dawn.Â
A guard stands at the living room entrance. “Boss, it’s done.”Â
Elijah pushes the door open. Blood still stains the floor where a few people are cleaning up. His eyes land on a ring in the middle of the floor.Â
He walks over and picks it up. The light is dim, but he recognizes it.Â
Isabelle comes down the stairs and sees what he’s holding. “Is that…”Â
Elijah tosses the ring to her. “Put it on.”Â
Isabelle catches it. Hesitates. “But this is…”Â
“She threw it away. Why not pick it up?” Elijah walks to the doorway and lights a cigarette. “Sterling’s former Donna walked away from the title. It’s yours now.”Â
Isabelle tightens her grip on the ring.Â
Elijah watches the street outside get lighter. “How long do you think she’ll last out there? Without the family protecting her, everyone gunning for us will go after her first. Once she figures out how dangerous it is, she’ll come crawling back.”Â
Chapter 5Â
An older guard stands nearby. Opens his mouth, then closes it.Â
He’s seen her fight too many times to count. Back in the day, she and the boss took down everyone who came for them.Â
She won’t crawl back. She’ll just keep moving forward.Â
Elijah leans against the doorframe, staring at the sky getting lighter. Something tightens in his chest, but he shakes it off.Â
She’ll come back. She has nowhere else to go.Â
Back in the living room, Elijah has the place cleaned top to bottom.Â
The older guard walks over with a USB drive. “Boss, I had someone pull last night’s footage.”Â
Elijah glances at him. “Why?”Â
“Thought we might need it later…”Â
“We don’t.” Elijah cuts him off. “She didn’t steal Isabelle’s shit. I know that.”Â
The guard freezes. “Then why did you…”Â
“Too many people in this crew run their mouths.” Elijah walks to the window. “When Owen got snatched last time, all those old bastards just stood around watching. Nobody moved. They don’t take Isabelle seriously. They think she’s just some piece of ass who fucked her way to the top. Can’t let that happen again.”Â
The guard gets it now. The boss was making a point, using this whole thing to put Claire in her place and show everyone that Isabelle’s the one he cares about.Â
Cares about so much he’ll twist the truth for her.Â
But Elijah didn’t count on Claire actually leaving.Â
Two months go by. Elijah stands at the door every day.Â
Sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night. He’ll stand there for hours, staring down the street like he‘ waiting for someone to show up.Â
The guard knows who he’s waiting for. But she never does.Â
One day, Isabelle storms into the study and smashes her glass on the floor. “What the fuck am I to you anymore?”Â
Elijah looks up at her.Â
“Two months!” Isabelle’s voice shakes. “You know How many times you’ve touched me in two months? Not once! You just stand at that door every day staring outside. You’re waiting for her to come back, aren’t you?”Â
Elijah says nothing.Â
“I’m talking to you!” Isabelle steps closer. “Do you even want me anymore?”Â
“What do you think?” Elijah leans back in his chair.Â
Isabelle freezes. “What’s that supposed to mean?”Â
“What makes you think you can question me?” Elijah lights a cigarette. “I got with you to piss him off. You really think I give a shit about you?”Â
Isabelle’s face goes pale. “What are you saying…”Â
“You look like her.” Elijah cuts her off. “That’s all it is. Couldn’t stand him having someone who looked like her. So I took you.”Â
Isabelle takes a step back.Â
Think I love you?” Elijah laughs. “Just wanted to show that bastard I can take whatever he wants whenever I feel like it.”Â
“No…” Isabelle shakes her head. “You said you wanted to save me. You said you couldn’t stand seeing me…”Â
“I couldn’t stand seeing her face with him.” Elijah stands. “Never said I didn’t want her. You’re the one who wanted too much.”Â
She’s shaking. She knows who she looks like. She’s always known. But she thought with enough time, he‘ d actually fall for her.Â
Elijah holds out his hand. “Where’s the ring?”Â
Isabelle covers her hand instinctively. “What?“
“The Donna ring.” Elijah’s voice goes cold. “The one I gave you. Give it back.”Â
