My Fiance Took My Cousin to Our Wedding Photoshoot. Ok, I Canceled the Wedding Chapter 07
“Vivian, I finally found you!”
He cornered me on my way out of work, his face dark with accusation.
“You’ve been back for days. Why haven’t you gone home?
Where have you been staying all this time?
Why won’t you take my calls?
You.‘
“Nathaniel,” I cut him off. “We broke up.”
Nathaniel froze.
“When did we break up?”
“Last month, the day Delilah hurt her hand.
I told you then we were through.”
“I never agreed to that!”
Nathaniel grabbed my wrist, his tone urgent.
“Vivian, I know you’re angry I didn’t take you abroad last time.
I was careless, and I apologize.
But breaking up over something like this isn’t
something you just.”
AL
“Nathaniel, I’m really tired.”
I shook his hand off, my voice going cold.
“You’ve neglected me way too many times over the years.
Your heart isn’t with me anymore.
Delilah is the one who matters most to you now.
Why keep lying to yourself?”
Nathaniel stood there, stunned and at a loss.
“No. That’s not true.
You’re the most important person to me!
Vivian, I only treated Delilah well because she’s an
orphan and pitiful.
She was always hanging on me, so I.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore.”
I smiled, feeling lighter than I had in years.
“Nathaniel, the reasons don’t matter.
Because I just don’t care anymore.”
Nathaniel went home in a daze.
As soon as he walked in, Delilah rushed up to him.
“So, Nathaniel, did you find Vivian?”
“Yeah, I found her.”
Nathaniel stared blankly ahead, his voice flat.
“She wants to break up with me.
Vivian said she wants to break up.”
Delilah paused, a flicker of glee crossing her face.
Then, summoning her courage, she spoke up.
“Nathaniel, if she wants to break up, let her.
Vivian doesn’t deserve someone like you.
If she doesn’t want you, I do.”
“Nathaniel, I like you.
I’ve liked you for a long, long time!
I know you have feelings for me too.
Let’s be together!”
Nathaniel looked up at her, dazed.
“Delilah, what are you saying?”
He shook his head without hesitation.
“I’ve always seen you as a little sister.
I’ve never had feelings for you.”
“That’s impossible!”
Delilah’s voice grew heated.
“If you don’t like me, why are you so good to me?
You remember every little thing about me.
You always show up the second I need you.
Between me and Vivian, you always choose me.
Vivian
And every time I make a move, you never pull away.
You kept flirting with me over and over. That means you’re interested!”
Hearing Delilah’s words, Nathaniel finally understood just how absurd he’d been all these years.
When they were kids, he always thought Vivian was so pitiful.
She had to give up everything she loved to Delilah.
So he did everything he could to be good to Vivian.
He made up for everything she lost, spoiling her like she was the most precious person in the world for over
a decade.
He’d truly loved her and wanted to spend his life with her.
But somewhere along the way, his attention had slowly shifted to Delilah.
When did it start?
It must have been the year he went to Vivian’s house to see her.
Vivian wasn’t home.
Only Delilah was there.
A sudden thunderstorm hit, and when lightning
cracked, Delilah jumped into his arms, sobbing.
“Nathaniel, please don’t leave!
I’m so scared!
I miss my mom and dad!
Aunt Elinor took Vivian out, so I’m all alone!”
Delilah’s pitiful, fragile act suddenly triggered something in Nathaniel.
It was the same protective instinct he’d felt for Vivian as a child.
All of a sudden, he felt that Delilah, who’d lost her
parents young, needed even more love and care than Vivian did.
And so, his heart gradually shifted to Delilah.
He did everything for her, gave her everything she wanted.
And even when she initiated moments of closeness and ambiguity, he never responded, but he never refused either.
Delilah was right.
It was his wishy–washy attitude that made her think he had feelings for her too.
But the truth was, he’d loved Vivian his whole life.
How could he let Delilah come between him and the girl he’d held in his heart since childhood?
