My “Escort” Boss Chapter 05
Why Does Your Scent Feel So Familiar?
I pretended to stay calm, deliberately avoiding
Darren’s scorching gaze as I took a step back.
“You’ve got the wrong person. I’ve never been to any hotel.”
Disbelief flashed across Darren’s eyes, and just as he was about to question me further-
Theresa, the female instructor who had always had it out for me, came running over with a smug look on her face.
“Sir, are you going to discipline this reckless trainee?”
Darren shot her a cold glance, then pointed at me and said something that sent me straight into an icy abyss.
“No. Starting today, this intern will be trained by me personally.”
Theresa’s smile froze. Jealousy twisted her face.
“But sir, she’s just a rookie. How could she possibly-”
“I was a rookie once too,” Darren cut her off, his tone leaving no room for argument.
My mouth fell open. It felt like the sky was collapsing.
Personally train me?
That meant I’d have to face him twenty–four hours a day. Face the man I had slept with and cuffed.
Seeing the faint, unreadable smile at the corner of Darren’s lips, a strong sense of dread crept over me
He wasn’t valuing my talent. He was suspicious of me. This was a game of cat and mouse, and I was the mouse pinned beneath his paw.
“What are you standing around for?” Darren turned away, his tall back facing me.
“Keep up. Since you’re so ‘skilled,‘ we’ll start special training tonight.”
“Faster!” Darren’s voice exploded above my head, low and stern, yet laced with an infuriating magnetism.
The dim training hall felt like a steam room, the air thick and suffocating. I was hanging from the pull–up bar, my arms burning as if they were about to snap, sweat dripping from my chin onto the floor.
“I can’t… Sir, I really can’t anymore!” I gasped, my voice soft and breathless as it echoed through the empty hall, carrying an oddly intimate undertone.
Darren stood behind me with his arms crossed, coldly watching the trembling muscles in my back.
“With arms like that, you think you can compete in the World Police and Fire Games arm–wrestling event?
Don’t embarrass me out there.”
“I’m just aiming to participate…” I slid off the bar and muttered pitifully..
“I’m aiming to win.” Darren stepped closer, his oppressive presence instantly enveloping me.
“Come here. Arm wrestling. Class is over when you can last ten seconds against me.”
Again, that close proximity.
We sat across from each other at the training table, our hands clasped together. His palm was large, dry, and powerful.
“Start.”
I gritted my teeth and used every ounce of strength I had, my face flushing red, while Darren didn’t budge at all. He even had the leisure to raise an eyebrow at me. The next second, he pressed down lightly with his wrist.
Bang.
The back of my hand slammed hard against the table.
Instant defeat.
“Again.” A playful smile curved his lips.
For a split second, I blanked out. Damn it. Why did this sadistic man have to look so good when he smiled?
Half an hour later, I dragged my noodle–like legs into the communal bathroom.
It was already late at night. The bathroom was empty, moonlight streaming through the window and reflecting off the damp tiles. I turned on the shower and let the cold water pour over my overheated body, yet my mind was filled with the sensation of Darren’s hand gripping mine earlier.
“Nora, get a grip. He’s your boss–and your best friend’s benefactor…” I muttered, slapping my own face.
Just then, a dark shape suddenly darted across the corner of the wall.
Furry. With a long tail.
“Ahhh!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. I had been terrified of mice my entire life. I shrank into the corner, screaming so loudly it felt like the walls mighty shatter.
“Nora!”
Almost instantly, a frantic shout came from the men’s shower next door, followed by hurried footsteps.
rushing in.
Darren Gellar burst into my sight just like that.
He was clearly in the middle of showering too. His upper body was bare, hair dripping wet, water tracing down his broad shoulders, over his abs, and disappearing into the loosely tied towel around his waist.
“What happened? Are you hurt?” He rushed over, his face full of concern.
I was soaked, wrapped in nothing but a thin towel,, and pointed at the corner in terror.
“A… a mouse!”
Darren froze for a moment, then quickly pulled me behind him and chased the mouse away.
The crisis was over.
But a bigger one had begun.
The narrow space. The humid steam. Two people barely dressed.
I clutched his arm tightly, my body still trembling.
Darren looked down at me, his gaze suddenly darkening. We were too close, close enough for me to smell the scent of his body wash,
It was the same one I used.
“Why do I feel like your scent is a little familiar?” he asked suddenly, his voice slightly hoarse.
