My Blood Fed Her First Love Chapter 06

My Blood Fed Her First Love Chapter 06

1, Calvin, now known as Conrad Lane, stood behind the stage monitor, watching Juliana enter the conference hall.

Two years. She looked much more haggard; her once immaculate makeup couldn’t hide the dark circles and weariness under her eyes.

But as soon as she entered the venue, her eyes shone with excitement, which disgusted me.

That anonymous email was the bait I laid.

Calvin, are you sure?” Luna Miller’s voice held concern. She was no longer the ordinary detective

who took my call; she was my partner who had fought alongside me. “Once you step onto that stage, there’s no turning back. All of the past will be exposed.”

I turned to look at her.

This person had been with me through the darkest two years–from faking my death with Professor Williams‘ help, receiving treatment and special training overseas under a new identity, to starting over in regenerative medicine and blood ethics as a new person.

“I’m sure.” I gently took her hand, my fingertips. warm and steady. “I came back to personally draw a line under the past, to expose the crimes publicly.”

On the monitor screen, Juliana sat in a front row side seat, her gaze sweeping the stage and entrances like a searchlight. She was looking for me.

The lights dimmed, the host took the stage, and began introducing today’s keynote speaker.

“…Our next speaker… not only has outstanding academic achievements, but his personal experience provides a shocking and profound case for understanding the boundaries of medical ethics…

Please welcome, Dr. Conrad Lane!”

I heard a low murmur from the audience. Many in the circle vaguely knew that the name “Conrad Lane” seemed connected to an unpublicized medical scandal involving the famous hematologist Dr. Juliana Thorne from two years ago.

Juliana abruptly sat up straight, her gaze locked onto the stage wings.

I took a deep breath, adjusted my suit jacket, and stepped onto the brightly lit stage with firm steps.

The moment the spotlight focused on me, the entire ball fell silent, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Dressed in a well–tailored dark suit, my eyes sharp and calm. The Calvin Ross who was constantly drained of blood, pale and weak, lying helplessly on a hospital bed—he was dead.

Standing here was Dr. Conrad Lane.

“Calvin!”

Juliana’s hoarse voice shattered the silence. She tried to rush onto the stage but was blocked by nearby attendees and quickly reacting staff.

“Calvin! I knew it… I knew you wouldn’t leave me!” Her voice was full of twisted excitement and longing.

Security quickly stepped forward, separating her from the stage.

stood on the stage, slightly lowering my head to look at the deranged woman below, a cold, emotionless smile curling at the corner of my mouth.

“Dr. Juliana Thorne,” my voice was clear, steady,

without a ripple of emotion, “please be quiet. You really don’t want to miss any part of today’s symposium.”

She froze, the excited flush on her face quickly fading, replaced by a sense of foreboding that made her pupils contract.

Édidn’t look at her again, turning instead to the large screen and nodding to the backstage.

“Colleagues, distinguished guests,” I began, my voice echoing in the silence, “today, I stand here not only to share our research breakthroughs in ‘ethics–based management of rare blood type resources.“”

The screen lit up.

It began playing a series of evidence: encrypted recordings I secretly made of Juliana demanding blood draws; comparisons between forged medical

records and real data… a blurry but recognizable surveillance video showing Juliana in the basement, performing that fatal blood draw on Sebastian.

The hall instantly erupted. Reporters‘ camera flashes lit up in unison, aimed at the screen and at Juliana, whose face was ghostly pale below.

“This is fabricated! Slander!” Juliana shrieked, trying to rush the podium but held firmly by security.

Reporters, like sharks smelling blood, swarmed around her.

“Dr. Thorne! How do you respond to these allegations?

“What is the true cause of Sebastian Reed’s death?”

Was your marriage to your ex–husband Calvin Ross a scam targeting his rare blood type from the Beginning?”

Juliana was like a trapped beast. Her elegance, her calm, her authority–all gone. Suddenly, she lunged. to the edge of the stage. She grabbed the edge of the podium, looked up at me, her eyes filled with a desperate plea.

“Calvin… no, Lane…” Her voice trembled, almost incoherent. “I was wrong… I really know I was wrong.. but I love you! I was afraid of losing you! You need me, your research-”

I leaned down, closer to the microphone, letting her see the cold scrutiny in my eyes more clearly.

“Love?” My voice echoed clearly throughout the now- boiling hall. “The love you speak of is drugging me to draw blood? Is planning to turn my bone marrow into a renewable biological material?”

Juliana seemed frozen, her lips trembling, unable to make a sound.

“As for needing you,” I straightened up, my tone resolute, “no, Juliana. I don’t need you anymore. My research, my life, my future–they have nothing to do with you.”

At that moment, Luna Miller, who had been standing in the shadows at the side of the stage, walked out. She went straight to the podium, standing between me and Juliana, drawing a clear line.

Dr. Thorne,” Luna’s voice was calm and penetrating, please leave. Do not harass my fiancé, Dr. Lane.”

The word “fiancé” was like the final hammer blow, smashing Juliana’s already crumbling mental defenses. She took a sharp step back as if scalded by the word.

“No… impossible…” she muttered, disoriented. “How could you… how could you move on so fast…”

The conference hall doors opened again. Several uniformed police officers, led by a senior officer, walked in directly. The hall fell silent again.

The senior officer walked up to Juliana, showing his badge and an arrest warrant.

“Juliana Thorne, you are under arrest for the suspected murder of Sebastian Reed, aggravated assault, medical fraud, and violation of multiple medical ethics regulations. You have the right to remain silent…”

Two officers stepped forward, grabbing Juliana’s arms. The cold handcuffs snapped shut around her wrists with a click.

“No-!” Juliana suddenly let out a piercing scream, struggling wildly. “Calvin! You can’t do this to me! Everything I did was to be with you! You forced me!”

The police forcibly dragged her towards the exit. struggling, she twisted her head, her eyes fixed on me, filled with ultimate resentment, unwillingness, and shattered madness.

“Calvin! Forgive me! We’re meant to be! We still have a chance…”

Her voice was cut off by the commotion in the hallway and the heavy sound of the door closing behind her.

“Everyone, I apologize for interrupting the proceedings.” I faced the audience again, my voice now calm. “But as you have seen, this is the terrifying direction medicine can take when it loses the constraints of ethics.”

After a brief silence, thunderous applause erupted, filled with complex emotions–shock, sympathy, respect, and indignation at academic misconduct and moral decay nodded slightly in acknowledgment and stepped off the stage.

The door to the backstage lounge opened quietly.

A trusted assistant of mine walked in, holding a little boy, just over two years old.

The little boy immediately wrapped his arms around Luna’s neck, nuzzling her cheek affectionately, and said in a baby voice, “Mommy!”

The three of us stood together, a warm and solid picture amidst the slightly chaotic backstage,

Three weeks later.

I was in the lab analyzing the latest set of data when my assistant urgently knocked and entered, face pale.

“Dr. Lane! It’s terrible! Juliana Thorne… she’s been released on bail!”

My stylus fell lightly onto the desk.

“What?”

“Her legal team applied for emergency bail, and the court temporarily approved it! And…” my assistant’s voice held a note of fear, “we just got an urgent notification from reception downstairs, she… she’s in the building lobby right now, very unstable, trying to force her way in!”

As soon as the words were out, the lounge door was violently pushed open!

Juliana stood in the doorway.

Her eyes, however, shone frighteningly bright, a light of extreme, paranoid madness.
