My Billionaire Husband Lost His Perfect Wife Overnight Chapter 04

My Billionaire Husband Lost His Perfect Wife Overnight Chapter 04

I stopped dead and turned around.

“You want an old man to… strip?”

Housekeepers and guards all drifted closer, watching like it was entertainment.

Everett looked away for a second, then cleared his throat.

“You’re the one who asked for this.”

“If it’s a divorce you want, then everything gets settled.

Starting with what your grandfather’s wearing.”

That outfit was a gift Everett had given him for his eightieth birthday.

A $300,000 bespoke suit.

My grandfather heard the price and put it away, He never

wore it; it was too precious.

Today was the exception.

He’d put it on to come get me.

My grandfather shrank behind me,

He didn’t understand the Ashford family’s rules. But he

understood what Everett was telling him to do.

“Maybe… could I go into a room and change? I’ll give it right back.”

Vanessa blinked.

Sir, we can’t just let someone wander into a bedroom. If

anything went missing, that would fall on you.”

I glared at her, my voice hoarse.

“That’s a lie and you know it!”

Everett cut me off.

She’s got a point. They’re from the countryside; best not to

take any chances with sticky fingers.”

He raised his hand.

The guards moved.

They slammed my grandfather to the floor.

Every drop of color drained from his face.

Something shattered in my head. I could hear myself begging

“Everett, he’s almost ninety. Please, just let him have his dignity.”

‘I’ll have him change at home. I’ll bring everything back myself.”

Everett hesitated.

Vanessa didn’t.

“What if they swap it out for a fake? How would we write that off?”

“Better to settle it here and now. Unless you were planning to keep it for yourself?”

I looked at Everett, begging him with my eyes.

His face hardened.

“Do it. Strip him. Now.”

The guards didn’t hesitate. They started tearing the clothes

off my grandfather’s body.

His jacket.

His pants.

He fought them, thrashing and twisting, but it didn’t matter.

All he could do was look at me.

They reached for his underwear.

I lunged.

Stop it!”

A guard caught my arms and pinned them behind my back.

I couldn’t move.

They stripped him bare.

Cruel laughter exploded through the room.

“Stripped naked at his age. Pathetic!”

Why was he wearing Ashford clothes in the first place? Like

he belongs here.”

Jesus, cover him up; nobody wants to see that!”

My grandfather lay on the floor, curled into himself, not moving.

My grandmother pulled off her own coat and covered him.

Her sobs tore through the silence.

Tears ran down my face.

I looked at Everett.

Happy now?”

His face was blank. Only the white line of his

pressed–together lips gave anything away.

Consider this a lesson.”

“You don’t get to walk out of this house whenever you feel

like it. And you sure as hell don’t get to divorce me over some petty jealousy.”

I stared at him.

Nothing came out.

Vanessa walked up with a suitcase and slipped her arm through his.

“Mr. Ashford, our flight’s boarding soon. We’ll miss it if we don’t go now.”

“Fine.”

He picked up the suitcase and walked to the door.

Then he stopped.

Clean up the mess before I get back.”

That includes your divorce papers.”

The door clicked shut.

Then a scream ripped through the house.

Oh my God! The old man just slit his wrists in the guest bathroom!”

My grandmother’s knees buckled. She hit the floor, her face white as paper.

“Grandma!”

The room tilted.

Everything went black.

“She’s miscarrying! Ms. Ashford is miscarrying!”

Somewhere in the darkness, I understood.

My grandparents.

My baby.

All of them, gone.

Three days later, Everett cut his vacation short and caught the first flight back.

He walked in carrying a box from my favorite exclusive patisserie.

He opened the door.

The dessert box hit the floor.
