Moonveil’s New Queen Chapter 04
Nathan hurried out looking tense. He went straight to Stella’s side, almost instantly.
“Stella, what’s wrong? I could hear you yelling from in there. Nobody gets to upset you–not on my watch.”
Stella melted into instant victimhood. She patted his chest, voice soft and wounded.
“Alpha. It’s just some new intern.”
“She broke the rules and threatened to sue me.”
Nathan spun around, voice sharp. “The nerve. Who dares
He saw my face.
And froze.
I looked at him–guilty, caught off guard–and let out a
cold laugh. “Nathan. You tell me. Do I dare?”
He immediately put distance between himself and Stella,
trying to look composed,
“I told you to let the elevator thing go, didn’t I?”
“Why are you blowing this up into a legal matter?”
The crowd turned as one.
“Wait. She actually knows the Alpha?”
“So what if she does? You heard him. He’s still on Stella’s side.”
Stella’s eyes glistened. She grabbed Nathan’s sleeve, voice trembling.
“Alpha, you promised. Everyone at this company follows my rules. No exceptions.”
“Even if she knows you.”
“I was just looking out for you. What if some random stranger rides your executive elevator and has something contagious? What happens to you then?”
Nathan softened. He looked at me.
“Zoe, she’s only sticking to corporate protocol.”
“I’ll make her spit out an apology, and we can sweep this whole mess under the rug. No need to blow it out of
proportion.”
“Apologize?” Stella’s face twisted. She wrenched her arm free.
“Alpha! You’re supposed to be on my side!”
“Why would I apologize to her? Who does she think she is?”
“I was protecting your executive elevator. I didn’t do
anything wrong!”
I gave Nathan a dry, knowing look. “Executive elevator?”
“Nathan. This company isn’t your personal playground.”
“I don’t accept her apology.”
“What?!” Stella’s eyes went wide. “Who said I was
apologizing?”
“You’re not even a full–time employee. Since when do you
get to dictate company rules?”
Nathan could tell I was genuinely angry.
He stepped between us, facing Stella. “Enough. Be quiet.”
Then he pulled me aside, voice low. “Zoe, she’s young. You
don’t need to make a federal case out of an elevator
privilege.”
“Coming down this hard on a kid? How is anyone
supposed to respect you after this?”
I frowned and wrenched
“y arm away.
“Nathan. She’s running a class discrimination ring in your
company, And I’m the one overreacting?”
Nathan opened his mouth. “That’s not what I
I glanced at the watch on Stella’s wrist and laughed, bitter.
“You’re this protective of your female subordinate. People
might start thinking she’s your Luna.”
Nathan went pale.
He started to explain, but Stella snickered.
“Took you long enough to figure it out?”
What?
I turned. She was grinning, triumphant. “Yeah, the Alpha
and I go way back. What about it?”
“Now that you know, apologize and get out of my face.”
The crowd erupted.
“Oh my God. Stella really is the Alpha’s girl. No wonder he spoils her.”
“I suspected it. Saw them getting cozy in the office late at night more than once.”
“This is hilarious. She thought tattling to the Alpha would help. Turns out she messed with the Alpha’s mistress.”
Nathan’s face went white. “Stella! This is a place of business. Watch your mouth.”
Fair enough. He should have been panicking.
If it was just a matter of favoritism toward a subordinate, I could have handled it through corporate discipline and Pack rules.
Betraying your mate? That was something else entirely.
I’d only suspected before. Now I knew for certain.
