Mistaken for a Gold Digger: The Billionaire Lifelong Regret Chapter 06
Her five fingers dug deep into Riccardo’s arm.Â
“Now that she’s dead, you suddenly care? Now you want revenge?”Â
“I’ve been with this family for so many years, and you don’t feel anything for me at all.”Â
“What do you have besides self–interest? You have no heart.”Â
Riccardo looked at her with cold, distant eyes, like he was looking at a complete stranger.Â
“Wait, no,” Sophia suddenly laughed.Â
“You do have a heart. It’s just that your whole heart belongs to that girl who saved you when you were little.”Â
“What a shame,” Sophia said, her face twisted into a warped smile, staring at him without blinking.Â
“A shame about what?”Â
A bad feeling crept up inside Riccardo.Â
He grabbed Sophia by the collar and frowned at her face, distorted with jealousy and hatred. “Say what you mean.”Â
“What a shame that the girl you’ve been searching for all these years was actually Claudia.”Â
Riccardo stood frozen, as if struck by lightning.Â
It took a long moment before he could speak. “That’s not possible. You’re lying…”Â
“Sorry to disappoint, but I’m not,” Sophia said, her expression twisting even further as she watched him fall apart.Â
“I was the one who had Niccolo keep it from you.”Â
“For that woman, you were willing to give up your place as heir and took care of yourself all these years.”Â
And in the end, you were the one who hurt her the most.”Â
Riccardo’s body swayed, barely able to stay on his feet.Â
“No, that’s not… I didn’t… I never…”Â
The words of denial were hollow and useless.Â
Memories flooded back into his mind one after another.Â
All the cruel and ugly things he had said to her.Â
Even when she was pregnant, ignoring Claudia’s desperate pleas, throwing her into the ice cellar and injecting her with drugs to suppress the pregnancy.Â
“I’ll kill you,” Riccardo snarled like a cornered beast, grabbing Sophia’s arm and pressing the gun from his waist hard against her temple.Â
“Go ahead,” Sophia said with a reckless, self–destructive look, twisting the knife deeper into Riccardo’s chest.Â
“Claudia died in far worse shape than I ever will.”Â
“You have no idea. I whipped her, kicked her in the stomach, turned down the temperature in the ice cellar, and when I injected her. Oh my God, the sounds she made.”Â
“She’s gone, Riccardo. You’ll never find her again.”Â
In that moment, it was as if every ounce of strength drained from Riccardo’s body. He stumbled backward and crashed into the wall behind him.Â
Decorations fell and shattered across the floor. It was just like his ruined life.Â
Even after his men dragged away a still–screaming Sophia, Riccardo sat on the floor, hollow and empty, as if everything inside him had been sucked dry.Â
“Boss,” one of his men stood nearby, waiting a long time. “What do you want us to do with her?”Â
After a long silence, Riccardo finally answered, “Throw her in the dungeon. Put her through every punishment we have, but don’t let her die until they’re all done.”Â
