I Was The New Boss, She Told Me To Take The Freight Elevator Chapter 06
After I sat down in the chair, Kori finally let out a deep
breath. “Ms. Swain, actually, I had already reported
Ms. Sandoval’s problems before, but Mr. Hewitt…”
“I understand.” I nodded and cut her off. “Show me
Lia’s employment records now.”
Kori nodded and clicked through the system before
turning the screen toward me.
I glanced at it and froze.
“She was originally just a cleaner?”
Kori nodded. “Yes. She was mainly responsible for cleaning Mr. Hewitt’s office.”
“But after just three months, Mr. Hewitt personally
ggested transferring her to the front desk.”
“Less than half a year later, she was promoted directly to general manager’s secretary.
After that, she started creating various company rules… Including the executive elevator rule.”
I stared at the promotion timeline on the screen without saying a word.
Especially the first promotion, when Lia went from a cleaner to a receptionist.
That was right after Briar and I had gotten married.
During that time, I had suffered a miscarriage and stayed home recovering.
But Briar had disappeared for several nights in a row.
Whenever I asked, he told me he was out socializing for work for us.
Back then, he always looked devastated. I thought he was also struggling because of losing our child…
So before I’d even healed, I pushed myself back to work.
I thought that if I pulled myself together, he wouldn’t feel so heartbroken anymore.
But now that I thought about it, he was probably busy pleasing Lia during that time.
And the second time, when she was promoted from the
receptionist to his secretary…
That happened when I went abroad alone for my first
business assignment.
The simple dates displayed on the screen felt like tiny needles, quietly piercing somewhere deep inside me.
To be honest, if Lia hadn’t pushed so hard today, I probably wouldn’t have suspected him anytime soon.
After all, I had trusted him too much.
I snapped back to the present, pulled my gaze away, and said coldly to Kori, “Effective today, terminate
Briar and Lia from all positions.”
“The reason will be violating company regulations and abusing authority to hire employees who do not meet the company’s hiring standards.”
“Also, investigate the employees who supported Lia outside just now. Find out whether they had any personal benefits or dealings with her.”
“And cancel the executive elevator privilege.”
“Yes, Ms. Swain.” Kori answered without hesitation.
After handling everything, I walked back into the hallway.
Everyone standing there lowered their heads. Not a single person dared to look at me.
I ignored them and walked straight toward the president’s office.
The moment I closed the door, Briar, who had been waiting inside, grabbed my arm.
“Honey, what exactly do I have to say me?”
for you to believe
“If there was really something between her and me, why would I have arranged for her to be here on the very day you came to take over?”
I ignored him. I sat down on the sofa and started
scrolling through my phone.
He froze for a moment. He probably thought I was just
angry and needed some time to calm down.
Then he sat down beside me. His voice softened.
“Honey, you probably checked Lia’s employment records just now, right?”
“I can explain. I just felt sorry for her because she was
an orphan. She was so young but working as a cleaner,
so I wanted to give her a chance and help her move up.”
“Later, she did a great job at the front desk, so I…”
Before he could finish, I had already dialed his mother’s number.
The call connected, and a familiar voice came through.
“Janessa, what’s wrong?”
I smiled. “How’s that white watch I got you for your birthday working out?”
There was a brief silence on the other end. “What
n? Janessa, did you remember it wrong? What are you talking about?”
Only then did Briar realize what I was doing.
His expression changed instantly. He quickly reached for my phone. “Mom, did you forget? I gave it to you. I
told you it was Janessa who bought it for you. Think carefully.”
The other end froze for a moment. “What… I…”
I smiled. I took my phone back, ended the call, and
looked at Briar.
“Briar, let’s get a divorce.”
