I Was His Wife, But His Mistress Took My Name Chapter 04

I Was His Wife, But His Mistress Took My Name Chapter 04

But the gown was far too heavy

I only stepped aside slightly, yet Evelyn still tripped over the

long train and fell hard onto the floor

Dad and Nathan rushed downstairs

Evelyn, what happened?”

Nathan glared at me furiously

Vivian, did you hurt Evelyn again?!”

Before I could even explain, a slap landed across my face

A burning pain spread across one side of my face

I stared at Dad in disbelief

His face flushed with anger as he shouted

I know you’re upset. From the very beginning, you never truly

accepted Evelyn.”

But she just gave birth and is still recovering. How could you

lay a hand on her?”

Evelyn spoke with a trembling voice, tears filling her eyes

Dad, don’t be angry with her. It wasn’t Vivian’s fault.”

She said this dress was worth 4.5 million dollars. She said

couldn’t wear it unless I paid her.”

She looked up helplessly

It’s all because I don’t have enough money to give my sister.”

Dad, Nathan, if you give her the money, will she stop being/ angry with me?”

Dad let out a cold laugh

His anger completely exploded

Evelyn, you’re too kind.”

Give this woman money? Don’t even think about it.”

I should’ve known from the beginning.”

She’s exactly like her motherboth of them are greedy

women who only care about money!”

His face twisted with rage as he continued insulting me

The image of the loving father he had carefully maintained

for years shattered completely in front of me

Nathan stepped forward and stopped him

Dad, don’t do this.”

A small flicker of hope rose in my heart

But the next second, he spoke coldly

Don’t push her too far.”

She might actually ruin Evelyn’s wedding if she gets desperate.”

If she wants money, then give it to her.”

Just think of it as charity.”

He casually pulled out a card and threw it in front of me

His voice was filled with disgust

There’s five million dollars on this card.”

Isn’t that enough?”

Take the money and leave.”

Don’t show up in front of Evelyn again and disturb our peace.”

I lowered my eyes and stared at the black card that belonged

to the Mercer Family

Whatever attachment I had left for them vanished in that moment

I bent down and picked up the card

Then I gave a faint, indifferent smile

Looking at the messy pile of belongings scattered across the

living room, I no longer felt like packing

Nathan, since you can afford this price, then I’ll sell all of these to you.”

I looked at him sarcastically

Since Nathan has already chosen a new sister and found a. new family, clearly, he doesn’t need me anymore.”

From this day forward, I have nothing to do with the Mercer Family.”

I pulled my documents out of the luggage on the floor and turned to leave

Wait.”

Evelyn looked at me coldly

Since you said you sold everything to me for 4.5 million

dollars, shouldn’t you leave one more thing behind?”

I frowned, confused

She gave a cold smile

You’re already divorced from Adrian.”

So shouldn’t you take off your wedding ring?”

I looked down at the gold ring on my middle finger

And suddenly, I understood..

This ring had been the first gift Adrian gave me after we started dating

It was a pair of matching rings he had made with his own hands

Our names were engraved inside

He once told me gold was one of the most enduring metals in the world

Just like our love

But we both forgot one thing

Gold was also one of the softest metals

With enough pressure, even the most beautiful things could

lose the shape they once had

Adrian and I had been together for ten years

I had worn this ring for so long that I almost believed it had become a part of me

I tried pulling it off twice, but it wouldn’t move

So I picked up the scissors from the table and cut straight toward the ring

The moment the scissors cut through the band, an angry

voice came from the doorway

Vivian, what are you doing?!”

The scissors were ripped from my hand

Adrian pulled me tightly into his arms

You were trying to hurt yourself again, weren’t you-”
