He Said Cheating Was a habit, Fine I Swapped Grooms Chapter 10

Thomas spent a few days recovering in the hospital.

Once discharged, he lay in wait for me outside my place for, several days running.

No threats, no desperate pleas for reconciliation. He simply trailed silently behind me, a shadow.

Lance complained and even wanted to warn Thomas off.

I stopped him. “Let him be. Once he watches us together long

enough, he’ll finally accept it and let go.”

Lance backed down.

My company landed several big contracts around that time.

Business thrived, and my mood brightened alongside it.

The day I turned a solid profit, I took Lance car shopping.

As we prepared to drive home, a woman darted out directly in front of our vehicle.

I slammed on the brakes just in time. She collapsed onto the pavement, her wicker grocery basket tipping over, wilted green leaves spilling across the road.

She scrambled to her feet, hands planted on her hips, ready to scream insults.

Then I recognized her face. “Lilith?”

Lilith froze.

Her hair hung matted and messy. She had gained at least thirty pounds, her features hardened, her skin marred by severe breakouts.

“Amelia?” She recognized me too and shrieked, trembling afl over. “It’s you! Everything is your fault!”

Thomas was my boyfriend first. If you hadn’t seduced him, he never would have left me! I could have married him. You stole everything I deserved. You owe me!”

Before she finished shouting, an older man stormed forward and grabbed her roughly by the hair. “You shameless woman! Stop making a spectacle of yourself and get home!”

Lilith wailed as he dragged her away, casting a pleading look toward me.

I called my college classmate afterward.

Lilith? Her life is a total wreck now.”

She chased money and married that older man, only to discover he was a debt–ridden con artist. Bitter and reckless, she had spiraled into promiscuity and contracted an STD. Her husband beats her constantly.”

‘Our former campus beauty now weighs one hundred and fifty pounds and has fallen this low. It’s heartbreaking to witness.”

I listened with only a faint smile, feeling no pity.

This outcome had been inevitable. From the very beginning,

Lilith’s own choices had sealed her fate.

My phone suddenly rang. Thomas’s name lit up the screen.

I hesitated briefly, then answered.

Amy, I need to speak with you.” His voice was soft, as though terrified I would hang up. “Don’t end the call yet. I’m moving abroad soon. I’ve left a few things for you. Please accept them. Let this be my atonement for all my past wrongs.”

He gave me no chance to refuse.

The next day, his lawyer arrived bearing documents transferring nearly all of Thomas’s assets to me.

I stared in shock. “What is the meaning of this?”

The lawyer sighed heavily. “Mr. Spencer has been diagnosed. with mid–stage lung cancer. He has declined treatment and left all his fortune to you.”

He pulled a rabbit’s foot charm from his pocket. “There is this as well. Years ago, Mr. Spencer got this specially for you. He hoped it would bring you a lifetime of peace and safety.”

I stared at the charm and nodded slowly. “Thank him for me.

I also wish him hope of recovery.”

invested the inheritance into expanding my startup and donated generously to charity.

A year later, Lance and I prepared to submit our marriage. license application.

At our small wedding reception, a familiar silhouette

appeared in the doorway. He fled in a panic, abandoning a bag on the ground.

My gaze lingered for a split second, then I looked away.

Lance’s warm hand slipped into mine. I turned and met his eyes with a smile.

Some ghosts linger at the periphery of my vision to remind me: life is sweet right where I stand, and I must never look back.
