He Said Cheating Was a habit, Fine I Swapped Grooms Chapter 09
My grip tightened around my phone. Thomas had never sounded like this before.Â
Thomas, are you drunk?”Â
Before I could say another word, a deafening crash toreÂ
through the phone. Then chaos erupted–screams, voice shouting for help.Â
Thomas had been in a car accident.Â
The police contacted me because my number was the lastÂ
one he’d called before the crash.Â
Surveillance footage showed he had been heavily intoxicated that night.Â
I rushed to the hospital.Â
Thomas lay in bed, heavily bandaged, his face drained of color.Â
But the moment he saw me, his eyes lit up. “Amy, you cameÂ
to see me! You still care about me!”Â
looked at him calmly. “I’m glad you’re okay. Now that I knowÂ
you’re alive, I’ll be going.”Â
“Wait, Amy!” he called out before I could turn away. “I need to talk to you!”Â
He reached under his pillow and pulled out a diamond ring.Â
It was far larger than my wedding ring, its settingÂ
custom–designed–he’d clearly had it made specially.Â
He clutched my hand, his voice gravelly. “Amy, I truly regretÂ
hurting you. When the car hit, only one thought filled myÂ
mind: I had to survive, because otherwise I’d never see youÂ
again. Give me one more chance to win you back. I swear I’llÂ
never be with another woman again.”Â
slipped my hand out of his. “Thomas, I have a boyfriend.”Â
“Him?” His tone turned sharp. “I looked into him. He’s someÂ
nobody with nothing to his name. How can he possibly takeÂ
care of you? Amy, the years we shared mean something. SomeÂ
stranger can’t replace what we had.”Â
I shook my head and touched the faint marks on my neck.Â
“Thomas, Lance and I are perfect for each other. I feel nothingÂ
for you anymore. You can’t force me to be with a man I don’t love.”Â
The words cut him to the core.Â
He stared at me, devastation filling his eyes. “What do youÂ
mean, you don’t love me?”Â
Exactly what it sounds like.” I felt utterly at peace. “BeingÂ
with Lance made me realize I have no desire for you at all.Â
Human should follow their instincts, Thomas. You’re the oneÂ
who taught me that lesson.”Â
I turned and walked out of the hospital room.Â
Behind me came the dull thud of his fist hitting theÂ
mattress. I didn’t look back.Â
Lance and I had movie tickets for that evening. I wasn’t aboutÂ
to waste another minute.Â
