He Never Loved Me, Until I Left Chapter 07
Listening to Richard’s humble pleas, I felt nothing, even a little amused.
Go home?” I looked at him coldly. “Richard, your home is in Manhattan, or in Chloe’s apartment, but it‘ s definitely not in my and Leo’s future. I’m doing just fine now, so please have some dignity as a grown man.
Richard stared intently at my calm face, as if he couldn’t accept that I had truly let go. A surge of despair and resentment completely overwhelmed him. He roared in a broken voice,”
Then why did you do that in the first place?! If you could so easily walk away, so easily laugh and talk with other men, why did you go through all that trouble to scheme against me?! Why did you climb into my bed that night at the party and use the child to force me to marry you?!”
The air seemed to freeze at that moment. I stood there, stunned.
You schemed against me?” I thought I misheard. ”
You said… I slept with you?”
Richard’s eyes were red, his voice filled with esentment. “Isn’t that right?! You did that to get ahead of me when I was drunk! All these years I’ve been trying to accept you, but why couldn’t you wait a little longer? Why did you abandon me?!”
I stared at him blankly, and suddenly, an utterly absurd, cold laugh escaped my throat.
So that’s it. The emotional abuse, the suppression, the disregard for Leo over the past six years–it was all built on a ridiculous, self–imagined victim mentality!
“Richard, you’re pathetic and terrifying.” My eyes were sharp as I tore open the truth, word by word. That night, you were drunk and forced yourself on me
in the hotel room. I kept crying and begging you to stop, my wrists were bruised from your grip, but you were like a beast, completely deaf to my pleas!”
Richard’s voice caught in his throat, his eyes widened, and he took a half–step back in disbelief. “No…it’s impossible…”
“You completely forgot about it the next morning, and arrogantly assumed I seduced you.” I looked at this man, his face ashen, and felt only sorrow. “I could have called the police then, but because I love you, I swallowed my grievances and silently gave birth to the child.”
“I thought that as long as I did well enough, I could melt your heart. But I only realized today that from Ahe very beginning, you considered me a lowly woman! If I had known it would end like this, I would have preferred never to have met you!”
