He Heard Every Thought I Had About His Body Chapter 01
After marrying my childhood friend, Warren Cross, we
treated each other with polite distance.
He barely spoke. I wasn’t much warmer.
To this day, we still hadn’t slept together.
What I didn’t know was that Warren could hear my thoughts.
One day in the bedroom, I watched him step out of the
shower with my usual blank expression.
But then another thought crossed my mind.
Would I actually black out if we ever slept together?
I’d probably die from how good it’d feel.
Tara showed me that book. How did it describe it again?
Losing focus and… something about sleep sex?
Warren’s foot slipped. He nearly wiped out.
I reached out and steadied him.
“You okay?”
Why isn’t that towel falling off? Why’d you wrap it so tight? It’s not like looking would cost you anything.
Those muscles are unreal. And those fingers… damn.
“I’m fine.” Warren answered so quickly it almost
sounded like he was trying to cut something off.
He tightened his grip on the towel.
“Sorry. I couldn’t find my robe, so I had to use a towel.”
Of course you couldn’t. I threw it away.
It’s probably been crushed at the landfill by now.
Tomorrow I’ll get rid of the towels too.
I let go of him.
“Be more careful next time.”
“…Okay.”
After changing into his pajamas, Warren climbed into bed.
I kept flipping through my book, but my eyes drifted toward him anyway.
He was wearing dark pajamas with long sleeves and long pants.
A tank top would’ve been way better. Way easier to cop a feel.
Too bad just touching him is all I’d ever dare to do. What if he woke up halfway through?
Ugh. I seriously wish I could just slip him a sleeping
pill. Then I could have my way with him.
I kept my eyes on the page without giving anything away.
The second Warren sat down, he threw the blanket
aside and got back up.
I looked over.
“You’re not sleeping?”
“I haven’t been sleeping well lately. I’m going to take a sleeping pill.”
I didn’t think much of it and lowered my head to keep reading.
When Warren came back, he’d changed again.
This time he was wearing a tank top.
“It’s too hot,” he explained.
“Mhm.” I answered casually.
He lay back down.
Maybe he really was hot. The blanket only covered him to his waist.
One arm rested behind his head, and his broad chest was completely on display.
Every muscle was defined enough to make it impossible to look away.
His body put every romance novel cover model to shame.
Before long, he was asleep.
Thoughtfully, I turned the AC down a few degrees.
I read for a little while longer before switching off the
light and going to bed.
In the darkness, Warren slowly opened his eyes.
His expression was complicated as he looked at the
woman sleeping beside him.
She was completely out, breathing softly with her closed.
eyes
No sneaking a feel. No “sleep sex.” Only Warren lying
awake until sunrise.
The next morning, I stumbled out of the bedroom, still half asleep.
Rosa was already making breakfast.
The smell alone made my stomach growl. I pulled out a chair and sat down.
Today’s breakfast was sweet potato pancakes and soy milk.
Rosa smiled. “Is it good?”
My mouth was too busy eating to answer,
so I nodded
several times instead.
“Slow down, sweetie. Don’t choke.”
She set a glass of soy milk in front of me.
“My own kids never want to eat my cooking.”
Just mentioning them made her sigh.
“They don’t know what they’re missing.” I said.
Rosa genuinely adored me.
I might look cold on the outside, but every time I tasted
something delicious, my eyes lit up instantly.
It always made Rosa feel proud.
“By the way, where’s Mr. Cross? He’s usually up by now.”
“He took a sleeping pill last night.”
“A sleeping pill?”
Rosa frowned as she thought back to cleaning thatmorning.
The sleeping pills in the medicine cabinet looked untouched.
But when she checked the coffee grounds, she noticed the lid hadn’t been screwed on all the way.
