He Cheated, I Left Chapter 07
But at least Lily would get what she deserved. After all, I had to play by the rules here.
But overseas, she was in for a world of pain.
Whether she ended up running scams or hooking up with men for cash, either way, it was just right for a girl like her, a community college dropout who always thought she could cheat her way to the top.
Just as Lily left, I got another message from Eric.
He wanted to see me.
It wasn’t the first time he’d asked to see me since he got locked up.
He’d reached out plenty of times before. At first, he had no clue I was the one pulling the strings behind everything.
But Eric was always sharp.
By now, he must’ve figured it all out.
But so what if he finally woke up to the truth?
His life was already over.
Still, I decided to go see him.
After all, there were some things that needed to be said.
When I walked in, Eric’s eyes welled up with tears.
He broke down, sobbing, and asked me, “Emily, why are you doing this to me? I just wanted a divorce. Why are you making me suffer like this? We’ve been together for ten years.”
Watching him cry his heart out, I felt nothing inside.
I just smoothed out my coat, acting like nothing happened.
Once his voice was all hoarse from crying, I finally looked up and met his eyes, still calm as ever.
“Eric, don’t go acting like you’re the one who’s Suffering. This past year, I’ve begged you, crying my heart out, so many times.
“But did you ever reconsider? No. You just kept pushing me, step by step, forcing me to divorce you, forcing me to step aside,” I said.
Eric’s eyes went wide.
“Is that why you’re trying to destroy me?” he asked.
I just smiled calmly. “Of course not.”
“Then why?”
I looked up at him, meeting his gaze with a calm expression.
“Because you killed my dad,” I said. Eric stared at me in shock. “Your dad’s dead? No way. Alex told me he just went back to his hometown.”
let out a mocking laugh. “Back to his hometown? Lily told you that, didn’t she?”
With that, I pulled a file out of my bag. “This is Alex s investigation report. You really thought you and Lily just bumped into each other by chance?
“Come on. She was with Alex before any of this happened. When they found out you and Lily were high school classmates, they started plotting together to scam you.
“Alex cooked up the whole scheme to reel you in, and Lily played her part. And you, being so naive, walked right into their trap. Even the baby she was carrying? That was Alex’s, not yours.”
Eric stared at me in shock. “No way.”
let out a mocking laugh and handed him a few more photos.
They were all pictures of Alex and Lily in bed, kissing and getting intimate.
Eric’s eyes went wide in shock.
I just smirked and said, “Do you even know how my dad died? Remember his birthday party? You used him to pressure me into divorcing you, and that very night, he died.
“He died from the stress and heartbreak of seeing his son–in–law mistreat his daughter, and from Lily’s threats.
“That night, while we were talking about the divorce at home, your precious mistress found my dad and hit him with the most disgusting insults you could imagine.
“What did my dad ever do to you, Eric? Did you
really have to treat him so viciously? He spent his whole life teaching, and all he ever wanted was for me to be happy.
“You were the one who stood before him and swore you’d make me happy. But instead, you didn’t just insult me. You insulted my dad, too.
“Eric, even a dog in our family would know to show some loyalty and gratitude. But you? You took my dowry money and used it to start your business, and once you made it big, you let your mistress drive my dad to his grave.
“The whole world knew my dad was gone–even your own relatives came to pay their respects. But you? You didn’t show up. You were off with your mistress, walking on the beach, making out, and sleeping together.
“After all the humiliation you put me through, I only made you spend three years in prison. So what?”
Honestly, I wasn’t planning to cry. I had nothing left for Eric anymore.
But when I thought about my skinny old dad, I couldn’t help but cry.
Eric broke down in tears, his voice trembling as he choked out, “I’m sorry, Emily. I’m so sorry. I really didn’t know. I had no idea your dad was already gone…”
As he spoke, Eric slapped himself hard across the face, twice.
“I’m sorry, Emily. This is all my fault. I must’ve been out of my mind, completely blinded by my own stupidity. I really was tricked by Lily,” he said, his Voice thick with regret.
Even now, he kept insisting Lily tricked him.
But if he hadn’t let himself be fooled, Lily never could’ve pulled it off. It was all because he was selfish, nothing more.
Once I figured it all out, I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes and stood up, calm as ever.
“Eric, if you really know you messed up, then do your time and try to make things right,” I said.
With that, I didn’t spare Eric another glance. I turned and walked straight out of the prison.
Eric called out behind me, “Emily, wait. Can we talk?” I just let out a mocking laugh.
Talk?
Talk about what? How I’m going to have him killed in prison?
I let out a mocking laugh and walked straight out of the prison.
After that, I started living the good life–plenty of cash, plenty of free time.
Three years later, Eric finally walked out of prison.
Right before he got out, Eric sent me a letter.
Every word was dripping with guilt and regret.
He even swore he’d rise from the ashes and chase after me all over again.
I found it downright hilarious reading his letter.
He still thought he could make a comeback.
But I’d already prepared a special welcome package for him when he got out.
Back when he was still locked up, I made sure that as soon as he walked free, he’d follow the same path as Lily.
After all, he was so obsessed with Lily.
They’re stuck with each other for life–no escape, no mercy. That’s exactly what they deserve.
