Became His Perfect Luna Chapter 09
Seeing Kael there made me jump.
Then I called out to Madison silently, thoroughly annoyed.
“What is going on?”
“How did he get here?”
Madison went quiet for a moment too.
“He offered his Alpha blood at your grave.”
“Then he found a half–crazed Moon witch and used the scent you
left on the ring to track your soul.”
“He tore through the boundary Moon Goddess left behind and
forced his way into this world.”
I felt sick just hearing it.
“He really doesn’t know when to quit.”
Evan got to his feet and rolled his shoulder.
“No idea where this psycho came from, but he’s ruined your mood.”
“I’ll throw him out right now.”
Evan was tall, well–built, and plenty strong.
Here, Kael’s Alpha aura had no effect, and he had no Pack behind
him. He was no match for Evan in a fight.
Evan simply hauled him toward the door.
Kael refused to leave.
He clung to the edge of the table, a complete wreck, staring at me
desperately. Before he could get a word out, tears spilled down his face.
“Grace, I knew you weren’t dead.”
“I was wrong.
“I’ve cut Tessa out of my life. She’ll never come between us again.”
“Please forgive me.”
“Give me one more chance.”
“You loved me so much. Even after everything I did to you, you still
took me back.”
“Can you really just walk away from me?”
My shoulders shook slightly, as if I’d just heard a ridiculous joke.
“No.”
“I stopped loving you a long time ago.”
“You only get jealous, possessive, and crazy enough to demand
answers when you still love someone.”
“I stopped loving you the moment we got back together.”
“That’s why nothing you did could make me angry.”
“Because to me, you were no different from a stranger.”
Kael lay on the floor as the light slowly died in his eyes.
Itugged Evan along by his tie and got into the car with him.
Kael followed us.
For however long Evan and I fooled around, Kael stood outside the door.
When he saw the hickeys on my neck, all the color drained from his face. He braced one hand against the wall and doubled over.
He finally understood what it had felt like for me to watch him and
Tessa act like more than friends right in front of me.
It hurt like hell.
“I’m sorry, Grace.”
“I’m sorry.”
He stood outside the door, crying until he could barely make a sound.
I couldn’t be bothered with him.
I took Evan wherever I felt like going, and Kael followed behind us
like a shadow.
With no money, no identity, and no idea how this world worked, he
looked worse by the day.
To survive, he had to take whatever low–wage work he could get.
His wages went unpaid, he was pushed around, and he was met
with cold indifference.
At last, he understood what it had been like for me after he
abandoned me–alone, powerless, with no one to turn to.
“Grace.”
One day, he stood outside a mall, his voice hoarse.
“Will you ever forgive me?”
I was in a hurry to go shopping with Evan and had no interest in
another pointless conversation.
As I passed him, Kael suddenly lunged toward me.
A cold gleam flashed from the side.
At some point, Tessa Cooper had made it into this world too.
The moon blade in her hand slashed across the side of Kael’s throat.
*Alpha!”
Tessa clutched him in disbelief and broke down sobbing.
“Why did you take that for Grace?”
“Don’t you see? Everything that’s happened to you is her fault!”
“She took your fortune, made Old Alpha turn his back on you, and left you with nothing.”
“Why didn’t you just let her die?”
Her hatred only deepened.
She yanked the moon blade back and tried to lunge at me.
Kael locked both arms around her, and together they fell into the path of oncoming traffic.
The screech of brakes split the night.
Kael collapsed in front of me, a dark stain quickly spreading beneath him.
“Grace…”
“I’m sorry…”
I didn’t know what to feel.
I called for an ambulance.
Before they loaded him into it, Kael looked at me and smiled.
“I love you, Grace.”
Tessa never woke up.
Kael died in the emergency room.
In this world, he had no Pack and no family.
In the end, he was buried in a county cemetery for unclaimed remains.
I didn’t let any of it affect me for long.
Madison stretched inside me like a wolf finally basking in moonlight.
She asked, “Grace, are you happy now?”
I looked out at the city lights coming alive in the distance and smiled.
“Of course.”
“I’m finally home.”
“And I’m rich.”
“This time, no one is ever going to make me turn back.”
