Became His Perfect Luna Chapter 08
Back in my own world, I had studied finance.
Between that and the years I had spent helping Kael run Ashford Group, taking over the assets Madison brought back with me was easy enough.
Once I had money, love didn’t seem all that important anymore.
That was a far cry from the nights after Kael dumped me, when I would fall apart over the same question:
Why didn’t he love me?
Looking back, I had been so stupid.
If I wanted a man, I could have my pick of accomplished, unattached, faithful ones.
Madison asked lazily, “Want to see how Kael ended up?”
“He never actually completed the mating ceremony with Tessa.”
I was stretched out on an expensive leather sofa, and that got my attention.
I had nothing better to do. It might be entertaining.
“Let’s see.”
Moonlight flashed, and Kael’s world came into view.
After he and Tessa got together, Tessa’s life was nowhere near as glamorous as it had been when she was still his fake brother,
because Ashford Group no longer belonged to him.
Gone were the necklaces and handbags. Even the place they lived in was rented.
At first, she was still caught up in the thrill of finally having Kael to herself.
She stopped acting like her usual rough–and–tumble self, learned to
cook for Kael, and even swore she would struggle beside him and
rebuild Ashford Group from the ground up.
But Kael simply stopped coming home.
There was no companionship, no kissing, none of the tenderness a
real mate was supposed to give her.
After Kael treated her coldly again and again, kept disappearing.
and even openly fooled around with other she–wolves, Tessa finally snapped.
She grabbed the other woman by the hair.
Kael protected the other woman and shoved Tessa away, clearly irritated.
“Are you done acting crazy?”
“I’m already with you.”
“Ever since we were kids, you’ve used the Pack brother label to stay
by my side, kept blurring the lines between us, and kept painting
Grace as jealous, directly and indirectly.”
“Wasn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
Tessa broke down sobbing.
“I wanted you to love me!”
“I did all of that because I love you.”
“Kael, I love you!”
“I only ever saw you as my Pack brother.”
“And Grace loved me too.”
“Now that you’re the one hurting, maybe you finally understand
how much she was hurting back then.”
The color drained from Tessa’s face.
“You got together with me just to get back at me?”
“You still can’t let Grace go?”
Kael answered coldly, “I love her.”
“Of course I can’t let her go.”
“You’re the one who staged that kidnapping and made me lose her
for good.”
“You deserve this.”
“I deserve this?” Tessa laughed through her tears.
“Kael, even if I arranged the kidnapping, so what?”
“If you’d chosen Grace and stood by that choice, she wouldn’t have died.”
“You’re the one who got her killed.”
“Every time I got close, you could have pushed me away.”
“Every time I came on to you, you could have rejected me.”
“But you didn’t.”
“You drove her to her death.”
“Maybe she hated you right up until the moment she died.”
That destroyed whatever was left between Kael and Tessa.
The unborn pup didn’t survive either.
Kael never rebuilt Ashford Group.
Instead, he began looking for a Moon witch so he could carry out a soul–calling ritual that had long been banned by Pack Council.
He used his own Alpha blood, soil from my grave in that world, and the trace of scent left on the mating ring to try to track my soul.
Madison scoffed.
“He seriously doesn’t know when to leave you alone.”
I let the vision fade and changed clothes.
That afternoon, my best friend called and told me she had set me
up with a young guy who was handsome, in great shape, and actually blushed when he talked.
I was out the door immediately.
“Well?” My best friend practically drooled as she looked him over.
“Clean–cut, honest, and best of all, he looks ridiculously sweet.”
I liked what I saw too.
Now that I had money, life was boring enough that a little casual dating sounded like fun. It was a good way to unwind from work too.
Just as I tipped Evan Hale’s chin up between my fingers, a man rushed over and punched him hard enough to snap his head to the side.
“Get lost.”
“Don’t touch my Luna.”
