Alpha No longer Pretends Chapter 07
He calmed his anger and roughly lit a cigarette.
Half a minute later, he finally relaxed.
“I’ll give you five million. Consider it an apology. I won’t let anyone near Harper again. Trust me.”
I didn’t answer. I just sighed tiredly.
Mason panicked. He grabbed my shoulders.
“Anything. Just come back.”
“Why do you want me back?” I looked up at him, confused. “You
hate me so much. Why make me stay?”
My voice was calm, gentle, like a genuine question.
But Mason fell silent. His eyes were empty.
Right. For all these years, he’d hated Emily, hadn’t he?
Hated that the little sister he trusted had betrayed him for money.
Hated that she’d gone to his mother instead of asking him for help.
Hated her so much that he’d brought other women to hurt her…
yet she’d never bowed to him.
So why did his heart feel empty when she left?
No love, no hate–only endless cold emptiness.
He just wanted to grab her, hold her, bring her back…
His eyes fell on her face again, from her lips to her nose to her eyes.
Eyes that had once been so soft and warm were now cold.
A sharp pain hit him. Mason suddenly felt like crying.
Because he finally understood. He’d loved her all along.
But everything he’d done proved it, nailing him to a cross of shame.
He didn’t dare look back. Not even a little.
Mason hung his head in shame, sweating from his nose, forehead, and back.
He wanted to say he loved her–but did he deserve to?
His love was far too cheap.
He wanted to say he was sorry–but was it too late?
The damage was done. He couldn’t even convince himself.
I was surprised when I saw tears slide down the proud, arrogant man’s chin.
He slowly took my hand. His voice was small and choked.
“If you still feel anything for me, let me make it up to you. Even if
not as your husband… we’ll still be family forever.”
“Family?”
I whispered the word, laughing bitterly.
I knew they’d never seen me as family. Just a token child bride, expendable.
We’d never been equals.
But that didn’t matter. I’d never cared. I’d always been grateful he
saved Mother and me.
I just didn’t love him anymore. That was all.
*After we dissolve the bond, we can still be family.”
I finished speaking and opened the door to leave.
Mason grabbed me uncontrollably, his voice begging openly.
“I’ll give you anything you want. I already kicked Ivy Johnson out.
She was just a mistake. I’ve always loved you.”
He finally said it. But his voice cracked at the end.
Because he knew how ridiculous it sounded.
He braced himself for my mockery.
But I didn’t react. I just looked at him quietly.
I said calmly. “Thank you for loving me. But I only want to dissolve the bond.”
Mason heard something shatter. He stared at my face.
He finally understood. I felt nothing for him anymore.
After that day, Mason disappeared for a week.
When he appeared again, he finally agreed to dissolve the bond.
The former Alpha and former Luna were furious about him giving me the baby.
But somehow. Mason convinced them.
Mason gave me a house and five million in cash.
He also agreed to cover all of Harper’s expenses every year.
Only one condition.
I couldn’t remarry for five years.
It was obviously unfair. But I agreed anyway.
I had no plans to remarry. And the support was more than enough.
I just wanted to live peacefully with my daughter.
As for whether Mason would keep his promises–I didn’t care.
I only knew that when morning light seeped through the curtains and my world was quiet and peaceful… that was enough.
