After being assassination thirteen times by my fiance, I finally Chapter 02

I wiped away my tears, and instead of kick- ing down the door and hysterically question- ing her, I turned around, walked back to the de ad end of the corridor, and dialed a phone number.

“Dr. Harrison, the results of the last biopsy… I would like to know the most accurate time.”

The silence on the other end of the phone was suffocating.

“Ivan, I’m sorry to say… the brainstem tumor has worsened and spread, and coupled with your recent seyere injury, you have at most a month left.”

One month.”

leaned against the cold marble wall, paused for a few seconds, and then laughed for no apparent reaJon.

Diana wanted me dead, but the cancer cells were clearly more effective than her killer.

“Ivan?”

I turned around, and there stood Diana at the end of the corridor. “You look as pale as a corpse.” She frowned, scrutinizing me with impatience. “Is your wound still hurt- ing?”

I stared at her intently. In the past, even if her tone w as harsh, I would have been touched by her condescending concern. But now, I only found her arrogant attitude disgusting.

Faced with my silence, Diana clearly lost her patience

“What is it now? Are you still giving me attitude because the wedding was postponed?”

“It’s nothing.” I looked away.

Regarding the wedding…” Diana paused, her tone carrying a perfunctory reassurance, “I know it’s been delayed lately, but I’ve been busy with the Thorne Group ‘s acquisition. Don’t worry, I won’t shirk the responsi- bilities that the Thorne family should fulfill.”

“No rush,” I interrupted her coldly. “It’s okay if we never do it.”

Diana froze, a hint of surprise flashing in her azure eyes.

For the past three years, every time my wed- ding was “unexpectedly” interrupted, I would des- perately flip through the calendar in my hos- pital bed, praying for the date to be reschedule d. This is the first time I’ve acted so indifferent.

Just as she was about to speak, a weak yet sweet male voice came from above the stairs.

“Diana…where are you? I can’t breathe…”

Simon Blake–Diana’s childhood sweetheart

–slowly descended the mahogany railing. Three months earlier, he had checke d into Thorne Manor for recuperation, citing “worsen ing asthma and heart problems,” and had since be- come the de facto master of the house.

“Simon?” Diana immediately strode over to him and p alled him into her arms. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling palpitations again?”

“Maybe it’s because I didn’t eat breakfast, low blood sugar…” Si- mon leaned weakly on her shoulder, then loo ked over her shoulder at me, a hint of smug-

ess flashing in his eyes. “Ivan, you look much more haggard. Does the wound from be- ing stabbed still hurt?”

I’m fine,” I replied expressionlessly.

That’s good.” Simon turned to Diana, soften- ing his voice pleadingly, “Diana, I want to eat Laduré e’s limited–edition black truffle Napoleon, Dr. Char- lie said I need to replenish my sugar levels… but to-. day is the last day of its limitededition release, and the lines are very long. Could you ask Ivan to buy it for me?”

I watched this clumsy farce with a cold ey e. This scene had repeated itself count-

less times over the past six months. I was nomi- nally Diana’s fiancé, but in reality, I was her high-

class errand boy used to curry favor with Simon.

They have so many servants, yet they prefer to send me.

“Of course.” Diana nodded without hesitation, then looked at me and gave the order as if it were the most natuderral thing in the world: “Ivan, go to Fifth Avenue.”

“I’m busy.”

The air fell silent instantly.

What did you say?” Diana squinted, looking at me in disbelief. She was used to my com- plete obedience.

I said, “I’m busy.”

What important thing do you have to say?” Diana ap- proached me with a dark expression. “Ivan, are you th rowing a tantrum at me? Do you think you can get me to look at you more than once with this kind of play- ing hard to get?”

“I told you, I wasn’t throwing a tantrum.”

“Then go,” she commanded. “Simon isn’t well, and yo u’re not even willing to help with this little thing? You eat and live at Thorne’s house, and this is your attitude?”

Simon tugged at her sleeve at just the right moment: “Diana, never mind… Ivan probably holds a grudge against me for staying here. I’ll just take a taxi myself, even if I have to wa it in line in the rain…”

No need.” Diana stared at me coldly. “He will go.”

“Why should I?” I looked directly into her sharp eyes. “Just because I live here, does that mean I have to be your lover’s servant?”

“Ivan Green!” Diana warned sharply, “You’d better know what you’re talk-

ing about! This is Thorne Manor. You’re using the credit card I gave you, so you have to fol- low my rules!”

What if I don’t comply?” I smirked.”

Will you kick me out? Or hire somene to stab me a few more times so I’ll ‘give up‘?”

Diana’s pupils contracted sharply, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes: “What nonsense are you spouting?”

Simon keenly sensed something was amiss and coughed twice: “What’s wrong with Ivan today… He’s talk- ing in such a sarcastic tone, did I do some- thing wrong?”

“I’m not going.” I turned around and pre- pared to go back to my room.

“Stop right there!” Diana was completely enraged. “If you don’t go, I’ll freeze all of your Thorne family affili- ate cards tonight.”

My steps faltered.

Damn it, that’s money meant to pay for my expensive targeted cancer medication.

Are you threatening me?” I slowly turned around.

“No, this is a notice.” Diana haughtily raised her chin. “If you want to continue enjoying the treatment of a fiancé, then put away your ridiculous pride. Remember, withut the Thorne family, without me, you are a piece of trash who can’t even af- ford to hold your own father’s funeral,”

Her words were like a barbed iron whip, shatter- ing the last vestige of my illusory love for her.

stared at her silently for a long time, until I com- pletely erased that cold face from my heart.

“Okay, I’ll go buy it.”
