His Broken Toy came Back to Destroy Him Chapter 06
Hadley’s POVÂ
Students around us start whispering, pulling out their phones. The untouchable heir, melting down in public like a complete psycho.Â
“Ruined? Yeah. You ruined the Blackwells.” Preston stops laughing and stares at me. Those bloodshotÂ
eyes don’t hold anger anymore. Something worse. Something twisted and obsessive that makes my stomach turn.Â
He ignores Cole standing between us and steps toward me.Â
“But Hadley, you think you can just walk away from me?” His voice drops, rough and ragged. There’s something sick in it. “You got close to me, dug up all that dirt, played the perfect little pet. You did all that just to get my attention, didn’t you?”Â
My stomach twists.Â
“You’re insane.”Â
“I’m not insane!” Preston roars and tries to shoveÂ
Cole aside. “I’ve got nothing left! The Blackwells are finished! I’m finished! But I still have you! Hadley, didn’t you say you’d do anything for me? Didn’t you say you loved me?!”Â
Like a dying snake grabbing for anything to pull down with him.Â
Last time, he threw me away like trash. This time, stripped of all his power and money, he thinks he can manipulate me with this pathetic display. Like if he just acts desperate enough, I’ll cry and follow him straight to hell.Â
“Preston. You make me sick.”Â
I step out from behind Cole and meet those wild eyes head–on.Â
“I got close to you to put you where you deserve to be. Love? A piece of garbage like you who treats people like toys? You don’t get to use that word.”Â
The words hit him like a blade. Shred whatever delusion he was clinging to.Â
Preston’s face twists. He pulls a switchblade from his pocket.Â
Students scream and scatter.Â
“If I can’t have you, we’re dying together!” Preston lunges at me, blade swinging.Â
“Hadley, move!”Â
Cole shoves me aside and throws himself at Preston.Â
Without all that power propping him up, Preston’s just another spoiled rich kid wrecked by partying too hard, Cole dodges the sloppy swing, grabs Preston’s wrist, and twists.Â
The knife hits the ground.Â
Cole kicks the back of Preston’s knee. Preston drops, screaming. Cole pins his arms behind his back and holds him down.Â
“Get off me! You fucking nobody! Don’t you fucking touch me!” Preston thrashes and keeps spitting curses.Â
I walk over and look down at him.Â
He looks worse than I did last time, standing on those cliffs with nowhere left to go.Â
“Preston. Who the hell do you think you are?” My voice comes out quiet and cutting. “Strip away your family name and you’re nothing. Worse than nothing.Â
All you’ve ever had is violence and money to cover up how useless you really are.”Â
I crouch down and meet his eyes, level.Â
“You loved watching people on their knees, begging.Â
Now it’s your turn.”Â
“I’ll make you pay for this.” Preston’s teeth are clenched. Blood at the corner of his mouth.Â
“Go ahead.” I stand and dust off my hands, Like I just took out the trash.Â
Sirens get closer.Â
Police cars pull up at the edge of the plaza. Officers rush over.Â
“Freeze! Police!”Â
The lead officer spots Preston on the ground and waves his team forward. Cole lets go and steps back beside me.Â
“Preston Blackwell, you’re under arrest for assault, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of justice.” The officer’s voice stays flat. Handcuffs click around Preston’s wrists.Â
That’s when it finally hits him. Real fear. Real desperation. He stops fighting as two officers haul him up like dead weight.Â
As they drag him toward the car, he twists back and stares at me.Â
“Hadley.” He says my name like it’s breaking him. Nothing in his eyes but hate and madness.Â
I don’t react. Just watch the car door slam shut, watch them drive away.Â
“You okay?” Cole turns to me. Worry in his eyes.Â
I look at him. The tension I’ve been carrying for weeks finally loosens. I smile for real.Â
“I’m fine. It’s over.Â
No. Not quite.Â
My phone buzzes. Unknown number.Â
“Hadley. You think you won? I’m on the roof. Get up here or I’m jumping.”Â
Blair.Â
