I Was The New Boss, She Told Me To Take The Freight Elevator Chapter 01
On my first day after being appointed as the company’s
new president, I pressed the button for the executive elevator.
Before the doors could open, a female employee
stepped in front of me. “That’s for executives.
Cleaning staff use the freight elevator. Turn left.”
I froze for a moment. “I’m not a cleaner.”
Instead of backing down, she raised her voice sharply. “Not a cleaner? Then are you an intern?”
“Interns use the freight elevator too! That’s the rule for all new employees in our company!”
“If you can’t even follow that, you’d better get out now.”
I lowered my eyes and glanced at her name badge.
[General Manager’s Secretary.]
She was my husband’s secretary?
I immediately called to question him.
On the other end of the phone, my husband chuckled indulgently. “That girl is just stubborn.”
“Just take the freight elevator. No big deal. Don’t bother with her.”
“Otherwise, how is she supposed to show her face in front of everyone later?”
Then he hung up.
The secretary looked at me with a smug expression.
“Still pretending? Move. Get out of the way.”
“The executives will be using this elevator soon. Don’t get it dirty.”
I almost laughed from anger.
I pushed past her, stepped into the elevator, and
pressed the button for the top floor.
Looks like I showed up just in time to clean house.
Lia Sandoval froze and reached out to grab me. “Are
you deaf? This isn’t an elevator someone like you can use. Get out now!”
I ignored her. I simply pressed the button to close the doors.
As the elevator doors slowly shut, she let out a scream and hurriedly pulled her hand back.
I watched the floor numbers rise, but I didn’t feel relieved at all.
I never expected that such a large company would
actually have a hierarchy system hidden in something as simple as an elevator.
The elevator stopped on the 68th floor.
I didn’t rush to the president’s office, nor did I plan to find my husband.
Instead, I turned and headed toward the HR department. I wanted to take a proper look at the company’s hiring standards and internal policies first.
But before I even reached the entrance, a sudden force
grabbed me from behind and yanked me backward. “You actually came up here!”
“This is the top floor! Someone like you has no business being here!“
I turned around.
Lia again.
She was breathing heavily from chasing after me.
When she saw the HR office ahead, she immediately
pointed at me and shouted, “You didn’t pass your
probation! Don’t bother reporting to HR. You’re fired!”
“You think you can ignore me and still work here?
Dream on!”
What?
I almost laughed. “Since when does an intern’s
probation depend on whether she does what a general manager’s secretary says?”
She didn’t back down. Instead, she folded her arms and smirked.
“What, you think otherwise?”
“Let me tell you something. Anyone assigned to work
beside Mr. Hewitt has to pass through me first.”
“You’re just an intern. On your very first day, you
dared to use the executive elevator without
permission. You clearly have no respect for company leadership.”
“I have every right to fire you directly.”
The commotion attracted the attention of the
employees nearby. One by one, they gathered around,
and most of them immediately sided with Lia.
“Interns these days can’t handle even the slightest hardship.”
“She’s fighting for the executive elevator today. What’s next? Fighting for the president’s seat tomorrow?”
“Ms. Sandoval said you didn’t pass, so you didn’t pass.
Even if you go directly to Mr. Hewitt, one look from Ms.
Sandoval and you’re still out.”
“Exactly. Ms. Sandoval is Mr. Hewitt’s right hand. He
spoils her rotten. Whatever she says goes.”
“You offended Ms. Sandoval, which means you offended Mr. Hewitt. Get lost already!”
I stood in the middle of the crowd, listening to their ridiculous words.
Standing in the middle of the crowd, listening to this absurdity, I felt something tighten in my chest.
Briar Hewitt was my husband.
