I Was The New Boss, She Told Me To Take The Freight Elevator Chapter 02
Briar had always been a man who knew his boundaries.
But today, even though he knew I had been appointed as the company’s president, he still expected me to swallow my anger and tolerate a secretary who abused her authority.
I had already sensed something was wrong.
Now I saw it clearly. He’d been indulging her all along.
Seeing me frozen in place, Lia reached out and poked my shoulder. “Did you hear me?”
“Leave while Mr. Hewitt is still in a meeting.”
“Otherwise, with Mr. Hewitt’s personality, if he finds out you bullied me, he’ll make sure you can’t survive
in this industry.”
The moment she raised her hand, I caught sight of the
white watch on her wrist.
Wasn’t that the one Briar had me buy last month–for his mother’s birthday?
There were fewer than ten of these watches in the entire world.
The one with the white strap was completely unique.
He had simply said his mother liked it, and I bought it without hesitation.
I never expected it would end up on Lia’s wrist.
What else was there to misunderstand?
I took a deep breath, slapped her hand away, and said
coldly, “Fine. Have Briar say those words to me
himself. Let’s see if he dares.”
The air suddenly fell silent.
But Lia recovered quickly. She pointed at me and
shrieked, “How dare you call Mr. Hewitt by his first name!”
“Someone in Mr. Hewitt’s position isn’t someone an
intern like you can meet just because you want to!”
Then her brow furrowed, eyes turning wary and contemptuous. “I see now. You’re after him, aren’t you?”
“First, you deliberately acted special and insisted on using the executive elevator. Then you called him by
his first name in front of everyone.”
“Aren’t you just trying to get his attention and play some Cinderella fantasy where you climb your way
up?”
“You actually think you can seduce Mr. Hewitt? Take a good look at yourself who do you think you are?”
I didn’t immediately argue. I simply looked at her coldly.
Seeing that I remained silent, Lia assumed she had hit
the truth. Her arrogance grew even stronger.
She walked around me, looking me up and down with a mocking smile.
“I’ve seen plenty of your type. Dress down, act above it all, think that’ll catch Mr. Hewitt’s eye?”
“Too bad. Mr. Hewitt has a cleanliness obsession. In
this company, I’m the only woman allowed to get close
to him. Everyone else can forget it.
I looked at her, anger rising inside me. “I came here to work, not to compete over a man. And that elevator?
Starting today, anyone can use it.”
Lia froze for a second. Then her face flushed red with anger.
“Who do you think you overturn rules I set?”
are? What gives you the right to
“I’ve worked with Mr. Hewitt for ten years. The
executive elevator rule has existed for ten years!”
“How dare you spout nonsense in front of me!”
At that moment, a woman wearing glasses stepped out
from the side of the crowd. She gently tugged at my sleeve.
“Miss, just listen to Ms. Sandoval. I’ve worked on this
floor for so many years. I’ve always taken the freight
elevator. It’s really not a big deal.”
I looked at her in confusion. “The freight elevator only goes up to the 63rd floor. Then how did you get here?”
She carefully glanced at Lia. “I take the stairs. It’s only five flights–good exercise, really.”
“Just don’t argue with Ms. Sandoval. Apologize nicely and she’ll go easy on you.”
The stairs? Five flights?
All because of Lia’s rule?
I turned to the woman. “This is workplace
discrimination. Have you never thought about speaking up?”
The next second, Lia slapped her across the face.
“So what if I made you take the stairs?”
“You’ve worked here for years and still haven’t
become an executive. The fact that you can’t use the
executive elevator is because you’re useless! And you still have the nerve to complain?”
“You butt in again and I’ll fire you right along with her!”
