The Clean-Freak Alpha’s Dirty Secret Love Chapter 03
Waldo looked at the document I handed him. He didn’t take it.
His face grew darker.
“Janet, you know what I expect from my mate. The bare minimum
is cleanliness.”
“And you bring this to me?”
I slapped the proposal down on his desk, just as coldly.
“You should ask Flora about that.”
Flora poked her head in through the office doorway, wearing an
expression of guilt mixed with innocence.
Waldo was amused. “So even you have moments of fear?”
He waved a hand. “Fine. It’s still usable. Wipe it off.”
Flora let out a cheer and bounded away like a carefree deer.
Waldo watched her go, still smiling. Then he turned to me. “I only
tolerate her because she’s your best friend.”
I laughed bitterly. “Oh, so I’m that important, am I?”
“Don’t be so harsh.” Waldo brushed off my sarcasm.
He flipped quickly through the pages. “The pack meeting is about to
start. Let’s just get the alliance settled first.”
It felt like punching a pillow.
He couldn’t see my hurt, my anger. All he saw was Flora.
During the meeting, he projected the alliance pact I’d prepared onto the screen.
Alpha Thorne of the Blackwood Pack applauded enthusiastically.
“Who drafted this excellent proposal?”
I was about to stand up when Waldo’s hand clamped down on my shoulder.
On the other side, Flora rose with a shy smile. “Thank you for your recognition.
The most respected elder of Duskclaw Pack nodded approvingly.
“From now on, you’ll be in charge of our inter–pack relations.”
I sat there, unable to speak.
Any explanation now would only embarrass the elder in front of everyone.
I didn’t hear the rest of the meeting. My head was ringing.
The moment it ended, I stormed into Waldo’s office.
I was shaking all over, pointing at him, but no words came out.
He patted my shoulder, as if soothing a fussy kitten.
His eyes held no guilt. “Your abilities are well known.”
“Flora needs this opportunity more than you do.”
I finally found my voice. “Then let her earn it herself! Why does she
get to steal my credit?”
Waldo reached for my hand. I yanked it away.
He looked baffled.
“Flora is your best friend. How can you be so petty about such a small thing?”
I nearly laughed in fury.
“I worked on this for two months! I was rewriting it last night with a high fever!*
“My mother’s surgery is next month. You know I need that bonus- the one for securing this alliance!”
Waldo waved a dismissive hand. “All you care about is money, isn’t it?”
‘I’ll cover the surgery. Now stop being mad at Flora.”
I stared at the transfer notification on my phone, feeling like I’d been slapped.
What was rightfully mine–he was throwing at me like spare change.
I looked at the Alpha who was so respected by his pack. I felt nothing left.
“I don’t want your money. You two are nothing but hypocrites.
“I want to dissolve the mate bond.”
I left a stunned Waldo behind and walked out.
Flora shot me a pleading look. I ignored it completely.
She and I had been friends for twelve years. She’d always been the
one who got her way. I always gave in.
I never imagined she would take it all–my achievements, my reputation, my mate…
She had once been the most important person in my life.
Now, I wished I’d never known her.
