To Love the Alpha Who Wears My Mate’s Heart Chapter 08
The screen behind us flickered to life with a grainy video.
A man who looked faintly like Ryan lay on a hospital bed, one hand pressed weakly over a fresh incision on his abdomen. Julia grabbed his chin and patted his cheek.
“You have that exact same glare in your eyes when your
mother died,” she said. “I wonder, once we cut your heart out, will you still have the strength to glare?”
He stayed half–reclined, his voice flat. “You’ve cut into me
before. You think I’m scared? You’d better worry about
whether I’ll run again.”
Julia laughed. “Not afraid? Then what about Amelia?”
half on
She pulled out a photo of the two of us and lit my
fire with a lighter, a regretful smile on her face. “I heard
she got bullied a lot in high school. Funny, our company
just hired a few of those old classmates two years ago.”
His pupils shrank. His voice went ice–cold. “Julia, wasn’t
driving my mother to her grave enough for you? As long
as I’m breathing, you won’t touch Amelia.”
Julia grinned. She stared into his eyes, curious. “Can you
stick by her side every single second of every day? If they
get their hands on her the second you turn your back, so
what then? Will she kill herself, or live with the scars
forever?”
She casually pulled up a long list of payment records.
She’d been watching me for years. My suffering began
with her, and it would end with her.
He suddenly broke free from the men holding him and
pressed a scalpel to his own chest.
“Our lives don’t matter much,” he said. “But what about
Ryan’s? Without my heart, will he find a matching donor
before he turns twenty?”
Julia shook her head and waved the guards forward. One
command, and they’d drag him into surgery.
He smiled. “What about the cameras?”
Julia’s face went pale as he tossed the scalpel aside.
“I installed cameras in this room. They send footage to my
email every hour. If you force me to give Ryan my heart,
do you think that footage stays private?”
Julia locked eyes with him, forcing herself to stay calm.
“What do you want? I’ll give you anything except the Silver
Moon heirship. You’ll live like a king for whatever time you
have left.”
He shook his head. “I want Amelia set up for life, never
wanting for anything. The Silver Moon Pack guarantees
her safety. I want her free. And happy.”
Julia didn’t understand how anyone could put love above power and money. She looked at him with a mix of
contempt and something else.
“Matthew,” she said, “you really are… a hopeless romantic.
You’re just as brainless as your mother.”
She walked out. Matthew was wheeled out right after.
Before he left, he slipped a hair tie off his wrist and tucked
it under his pillow.
The screen went still. Silent. He never came back.
Later, Ryan was wheeled into Matthew’s room after the
surgery.
“I’m not staying here,” Ryan spat. “This place reeks of him.”
Julia tried to reason with him. “Ryan, the doctors said you
have to stay in this room for three days to get used to his
scent. Otherwise, your body might reject the heart.”
Ryan touched his chest and tossed Matthew’s hair tie onto
the floor without a second thought.
“The doctors said I’m an Alpha, didn’t they? I’m the heir of
the Silver Moon Pack now. So what if Matthew was their
original son? He was just a heart donor for me.”
“If he weren’t already dead, I’d love to see what my good
brother looked like. Maybe I’d even build a shrine for him.”
Julia couldn’t talk him out of it. She had them move him to
another room.
Matthew’s things were thrown everywhere. Everyone who
passed by trampled them underfoot. It wasn’t until
nightfall that a nurse came to collect his belongings.
They said the lead surgeon had made a mistake,
Matthew’s vital signs had flatlined the moment his heart was carved out.
“I’ve never seen anyone bleed that much,” one of them
murmured. “So pitiful.”
And back then, I was in the morgue, sobbing over
Matthew’s lifeless body.
