They Rejected an SSS Bloodline, Big Mistake Chapter 03
He shook the boxes in front of my face. “Got a cake for both of you!”
My eyes dropped down.
Inside the clear boxes were two identical double cheesecake drizzle cakes.
“Thanks.” I didn’t take it, just stood there staring at him calmly.
“C’mon, I picked this one out just for you.”
He forced one into my hand and walked straight into
the living room like he owned the place.
“Where’s Lila? I texted her and she didn’t answer.”
“They went to the market.”
I set the heavy cake down on the dining table.
Gideon blinked in surprise, then grinned. “Oh, they
went to the market, that makes sense. How come you didn’t go? Lazy day again, huh?”
His tone was so casual, writing me off as “lazy” like it was obvious.
But he knew better. He knew I snuck out to train in the
middle of the night all the time. That was how we met, out in the dark.
One look at each other, and our souls just clicked.
That was what fated mates were supposed to be, right?
MATE!
I stared at that sickly sweet honey cake, and my stomach started to churn.
Three years ago, when I first met Gideon.
He offered me a milk candy once, and I shook my head and said I hated sweet stuff.
He looked so shocked back then. “A girl that doesn’t like sweets? You’re so different.”
After that, he always bought me high–cacao dark chocolate.
Every time we got drinks at the territory market, he’d automatically tell the vendor, “No sugar, Sera hates
sweet drinks, she’ll make a face if it’s sugary.”
But just three years later, he forgot all of that completely.
All he saw now was Delilah, the sweet, spoiled girl who loved candy.
Two years ago, Gideon came to our house for the first
time. He ran right into Delilah eating honey cake in her frilly party dress.
When he came downstairs, he blurted out to me,
sister’s so cute, nothing like you.
“Your
“No wonder your brother’s so soft on her–if I was
him, I’d be too…”
I thought he was just joking back then.
Now I got it. That throwaway joke was the foundation for every single choice he’d made these three years.
“Aren’t you gonna eat it?” Gideon sat down on the couch, saw me staring at the cake, and asked offhand.
“Sure, in a second.”
I unwrapped the packaging, grabbed my silver fork,
and dug out a tiny bite of cheesecake and put it in my mouth.
It was so sweet.
Sweet enough to taste bitter.
“Hey, where are you applying? Southeastern Territory omega camp? Or maybe logistics training?” Gideon
was staring down at his bracelet texting Delilah, a little smile still on his lips. “Lila said she wants to join the
Southeastern Territory’s legion–she’s coming there ‘cause I’m going.
“What about you? Your mom said you’d probably only get into logistics camp, that’s fine, Southeastern’s got plenty of those.
“We’ll all be in the same territory, I’ll take you guys shopping and get you all kinds of good stuff.”
I swallowed that cloying sweet bite that was making me sick, walked over to the coffee table, and opened up my old laptop.
I logged into the werewolf assignment system. Every single posting I’d filled out was for Southeastern Territory–related legions, and now they just looked like a slap in the face.
I moved the cursor.
Deleted Southeastern Territory Grounds. Deleted
Southeastern Territory Guard. Deleted Southeastern Territory Patrol Camp.
Finally, I calmly typed in one name–Royal Training Corps.
Two thousand miles away from Southeastern Territory.
Click. Save. Submit.
Gideon looked up at me, and asked offhand, “Which omega camp are you signing up for?”
I closed the laptop and turned to face him.
“Doesn’t matter.”
