They Came For My Will, Not Knowing Everything Was Mine Chapter 02

They Came For My Will, Not Knowing Everything Was Mine Chapter 02

I spent one night at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Two days later, I went back to the Russo estate in Oyster Bay

to get my passport, birth certificate, and divorce papers.

The second I walked in, I saw staff hauling my things out of the house.

My clothes, books, and jewelry had been shoved into

cardboard boxes and stacked in the hallway. The wedding

photo on the wall had been taken down and replaced with a

portrait of Bianca standing in a field of flowers.

She was wearing my silk robe. She came out of the master bedroom.

When she saw me, her hand flew to her collar. “Don’t get the

wrong idea. I’ve been having nightmares ever since the

cemetery. Lorenzo was worried, so he told me to stay here for a few days.”

She was explaining herself, but she was wearing the matching

slippers Lorenzo and I used to share.

Inside the master bedroom, my pillow and toiletries were

gone. A framed photo of Bianca sat on the nightstand. Half

the closet had been cleared out and filled with her clothes,

Once, I’d gone to Chicago for a week on business, and Lorenzo

had the staff clean my room every single day, No one was

allowed to touch my things. He’d said that no matter how

long I was gone, this room would always belong to us.

Now, two days later, he’d moved Bianca in.

I went into the walk–in closet and pulled out my suitcase.

Bianca followed me. “Lorenzo just told me to stay

temporarily. Please don’t fight with him because of me.”

ignored her and packed my documents, contracts, and

family signet ring.

She saw I wasn’t responding, so she pressed her hand down

on my suitcase. “You can’t take this brooch.”

She pulled a sapphire brooch out of the case. Lorenzo had

pinned it to my dress himself on our wedding day.

Bianca fastened it to her own chest and adjusted it in the

mirror. “Lorenzo said this shade of blue suits me better.”

I slapped her.

The sound echoed through the closet.

Bianca froze, her hand on her cheek.

I unpinned the brooch, wiped it down three times with an

antibacterial wipe, and threw it in the trash,

‘I don’t wear things other people have touched. It’s dirty.”

Bianca’s eyes filled with resentment. She lunged at me and

tried to grab my suitcase. In the struggle, she suddenly let go

and threw herself backward into the wardrobe. Her forehead flushed red.

Lorenzo walked into the bedroom.

Bianca saw him. Tears spilled down her face immediately.

“Don’t blame her, Lorenzo. She just can’t accept that I’m living here.”

Lorenzo rushed over and steadied her. Once he’d confirmed

she wasn’t seriously hurt, he turned to me. “She’s only staying

temporarily. Did you have to hit her?”

“Who said I care that she’s living here?”

I closed my suitcase. “I was just teaching her to ask before she

takes other people’s things.”

Lorenzo saw the brooch in the trash. His expression

hardened. “If Bianca likes it, what’s the harm in giving it to

her? How many things have you given her over the years?”

So he knew. He knew I’d been giving things up all along. He

just thought I should keep doing it forever.

pushed my suitcase aside and took down the last photo of

us still hanging on the wall.

Lorenzo frowned. “What are you doing?”

opened the frame, pulled out the photo, and tore it in half in front of him.

My half went into the suitcase. His half went into the trash,

on top of the sapphire brooch.

“I’m making room for her. Generous enough for you?”

Lorenzo froze.

Bianca grabbed his hand and leaned into him. “She’s still

upset. Don’t hold it against her.”

Lorenzo didn’t push her away. He just stared at me, his voice

cold and hard. “If you can’t stand having Bianca here, then

move out for now. Once she’s feeling better, I’ll have someone bring you back.”

I nodded. “Fine.”

I pulled out my phone and called the moving company I’d

stationed outside the estate.

A dozen workers filed in. The antique pieces in the living

foom, the wine cellar collection, the items in the study, even

Lorenzo’s favorite custom walnut desk–everything was tagged and loaded.

Lorenzo’s face finally changed. “Who gave you permission to touch those?”

The receipts and purchase records are all in my name.” I

handed him the list. “If I’m moving out, I’m taking everything that’s mine.”

In less than half an hour, the grand Russo estate was gutted.

Bianca watched them carry out the Steinway piano. She

couldn’t help herself. “Do you really have to be this ruthless?”

I stopped. “You wanted to move in, didn’t you? It’s empty

now. You’ll have plenty of room to redecorate.”

As I reached the door, Lorenzo called out. “Matilde. Walk out

today, and don’t expect me to come get you. I already gave

you a way out. Don’t push your luck.“.

I turned around.

His face looked exactly the same as it had three years ago

when he proposed. Back then, he’d held my hand and

promised he’d never let me leave this house.

Now he was letting another woman live in our bedroom.

But all I felt was cold and clear.

“I’m the one who doesn’t want you.”
