The Nobody He Killed was Royalty Chapter 04

The Nobody He Killed was Royalty Chapter 04

Adrian’s POV

“Enough already.” Adrian waves his hand. “Drop the act.”

Kael grabs his arm. “I’m not lying to you. I just hope you don’t regret this, because you did this!”

Adrian shakes him off and starts looking for Freya.

The guard at the door points to a room.

Adrian rushes in.

Someone lies on the bed, covered with a white sheet.

The shape underneath makes him pause.

The pharmacist stands nearby, eyes closed, murmuring something.

Adrian walks to the bed and crouches down. His hand hovers in the air, frozen.

Finally, he lifts a corner with his fingertips.

Freya’s face appears. Colorless. Eyes closed.

Adrian’s breathing stops. Then he laughs. “Still faking?”

He reaches out to touch her face. His fingers meet

cold skin.

“Freya? Stop it. Get up.”

No response.

Adrian’s hand starts shaking. He pulls back the whole sheet and sees the dried blood underneath her, dark

red stains all over her clothes.

“No… no, this can’t be…” He shakes his head, grabs her shoulders and shakes her gently. “Wake up, Freya,

wake up…”

The pharmacist opens his eyes. “Chief, she’s gone. I did everything I could, but…”

Adrian looks at him, eyes bloodshot. “What?”

She lost too much blood.” The pharmacist’s voice drops. “My herbs weren’t enough to save her. The

baby didn’t make it.”

Adrian grabs the pharmacist by the collar. “Why the hell didn’t you take her to the infirmary?!”

The pharmacist’s face goes white. “The guards wouldn’t let me… and those were your orders.”

Adrian freezes like he’s been struck by lightning. He releases the pharmacist’s collar. “Out. All of you.”

The pharmacist sighs and leaves the room.

Adrian turns around and kneels beside Freya. He carefully lifts her into his arms. Her head falls limply against his elbow.

“I’m sorry…” Tears fall onto her face. “I was wrong…

whatever you want, you can have everything… I’ll keep Seraphina away, okay?”

“Just wake up… please…”

Her body is cold and stiff. She’ll never respond again.

Adrian stands up holding her, staggers toward the master bedroom. He lays Freya on the bed, tucks the

blanket around her, props up the pillow the way he always does.

He sits by the bed and holds her cold hand.

For the next five days, he doesn’t leave that room.

Freya’s POV

– When darkness swallows everything, I think I’m going to die. Suddenly, shouting breaks through.

“Who are you?!” Kael yells.

I force my eyes open and see the guards pinned to the ground by powerful beastmen.

A familiar figure walks toward me.

My father, Garrett Sterling.

“Dad…” My voice is so hoarse I can barely hear myself.

“You were right.”

He crouches down and lifts me into his arms. “We’re going home.”

The pharmacist tries to say something. Kael stops him.

Garrett stands up and looks at everyone in the room, What happened here stays secret. Anyone talks, they‘ re dead.”

They lift me onto a stretcher and move me out quickly. My consciousness fades.

The last thing I hear is my father’s command. “Get her home!”

Then darkness.

When I wake up again, I’m in a large vehicle. Everything’s quiet except for the slight vibration of wheels on the ground.

Garrett sees me wake up and holds my hand. “We’re heading home.”

I remember what happened before the surgery. Tears flood out instantly.

My hand moves instinctively to my stomach. It’s flat now.

“The baby…” My voice comes out hoarse.

Garrett gestures. A female beastman walks over carrying something.

I push myself up to look.

It’s a baby.

“You’re as strong as I am.” Garrett says. “The baby made it through all that. We delivered him on the way here, but he’s weak. Needs time in the healing chamber to recover.”

I nod. The female beastman carries the baby away

“Before we left, I had a mage make a body double to leave there.” Garrett says. “You’re not thinking about going back, are you?”

I shake my head. “Never.”

Garrett smiles. “As long as you’re alive, nothing else matters.”

A few hours later, we arrive at the beastman clan.

I fall asleep almost as soon as I lie down.

When I wake up, I want desperately to see the baby, but remembering my father’s words, I hold back. I have to wait until the baby recovers.

I stay in my room every day, anxious inside.

Sometimes I think about Adrian.

About him locking me in that castle. About him saying “she’s acting,” About his cold eyes.

I loved him so much once. But he never believed me.

That love died back in that castle.
