Chapter 8
Frederick snapped, “Preston, watch your mouth.
“You pretended to be some savior to stand up for Gabrielle, scamming her out of money and taking advantage of her.
“And now you have the nerve to act like you’re the victim?”
Preston was left dazed, knocked speechless by the blow.
It wasn’t until the bodyguards stepped in and dragged him away that he finally came to his senses, letting out an angry roar.
“Meredith, we’re married. You’re my wife. How could you Marry My brother?” he shouted.
I chuckled. “Come on, Mr. Scott, don’t kid yourself.
“What Marriage? Is there any official record of our Marriage?”
That Marriage certificate was a fake, so there was nothing in the records.
His face twisted with anger, jaw clenched tight.
He snapped, “Even if the Marriage certificate is fake, those kids are my own flesh and blood.
“What right do you have to let my children call Someone else ‘Dad?“”
I frowned, looking at him in confusion.
I asked, “Preston, didn’t you admit at your wife’s party
that these kids aren’t even yours?
“And you had a vasectomy, right?”
His face went pale, lips trembling, but he couldn’t get a word out.
He had no idea what to say.
Should he admit the whole vasectomy thing was a lie?
Or should he confess he’d claimed the kids weren’t his
to teach me a lesson?
Frederick slung his arm casually around my
shoulders, his smile deceptively warm, like he was up to no good.
Frederick said, “When Meredith had a miscarriage, I had to play the caring big brother.
“What a coincidence. When I got there, I ran into Someone visiting Meredith. I even recorded the whole thing.
Frederick took out his phone and hit play.
Gabrielle’s voice came on, talking to some man. “What if Preston finds out the baby I’m carrying isn’t real?”
It was Gabrielle.
The man said, “Find a chance to make the baby disappear, and blame it all on Meredith.
“She’s taken the fall for you so many times. What’s one More?”
Gabrielle’s voice turned syrupy sweet. “Yeah, that’s right. I’ll have Preston take her kids. She’s useless now anyway.”
The Man asked, “Preston hasn’t figured out you had him sterilized, has he?”
Gabrielle chuckled slyly. “He trusts me so much. He’d never suspect a thing.
“Back when I lied and said Meredith was bullying me,
he went along with whatever I said and got revenge for Me without question.
“If he finds out Meredith is the one he’s been
obsessed with for years, the one who saved his life, he’d probably go crazy.”
On the recording, you could hear clothes rustling, Something steamy going on.
I shot Frederick a long, meaningful look.
I was curious if he hid under their bed to get that recording.
Frederick didn’t know what I was thinking and grinned
at me.
The More Preston listened, the uglier his expression got. In the end, he spat out blood and dropped like a stone, passing out right there.
I watched with icy indifference. My heart was stone cold, feeling nothing.
I heard that after Preston got back, he divorced Gabrielle.
Things got violent between them, and they ended up trading blows.
With his face covered in scratches, Preston knelt at the entrance of the Scott Manor, bawling his eyes out.
But nobody gave a damn.
That day, Preston tried to use his inheritance as leverage, threatening Nathan in the hospital rooM.
Nathan didn’t even blink. He gave the order, and the Scott family cut ties with Preston for good.
Three Months later, Nathan officially handed over control of the Scott Group to Frederick.
I once asked him, “Nathan Must know about what
happened between Preston and Me. Why didn’t he call Me out on it?”
Frederick answered with a knowing, almost cryptic tone. “He only cares about having the best heir for the Scott Group.
“As long as the bloodline is pure Scott, he doesn’t care who the father is.”
It wasn’t until later that I found out the truth.
Nathan had been sick of Preston for a long time, always threatening to cut ties with the family over Gabrielle.
The Scott family had plenty of other heirs.
It was not like they couldn’t do without Preston.
Preston thought way too highly of himself.
Gabrielle, never one to give up, tried to make a Move on Frederick.
Preston put her clothes on for her and snapped, “Get lost.”
Preston happened to walk in on the scene, and his eyes went red with rage.
He slapped Gabrielle across the face in front of everyone, gritting his teeth.
“You have no shame,” he spat.
When he saw me holding the kids‘ hands, he hurried over, desperation written all over his face.
“Meredith, please forgive me. I know I was wrong,” he pleaded.
I gave him a cold look and spat out two words. “Get lost.”
I took over the Harper Group, and Gabrielle’s people pushed me out.
But I’d bribed the finance guy to hand over all the proof of how Gabrielle had been secretly siphoning off Company funds for years.
He gave me all the dirt on her embezzlement.
She got caught, and for embezzling millions of dollars, she was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Before she was sent to prison, she broke down in tears, begging me for Mercy.
But I knew she wasn’t sorry. She was scared.
As for Eddie, I hadn’t thought about him in a long time.
Three days after Frederick and I registered our Marriage, Eddie popped up in front of me again, trying
to cause a scene.
Frederick happened to come home right then and walked in on the whole thing.
The next day, I heard Eddie’s company had gone bankrupt.
Eddie skipped town and disappeared without a trace.
After that, I never saw any of those people who’d hurt Me again.
After all, they either went bankrupt or got kicked out by

their families
None of them ended up any better.
I smiled to myself, not giving them another thought.
For me, a whole new chapter of my life was beginning.
