The Mafia Princess Who Lived In A Bubble Chapter 05
I floated in midair, watching Mom scramble toward the body on the floor.
“Mom, I’m here.”
I reached out to touch her hair, but my fingers passed
straight through her.
I froze.
“What happened?”
Dad heard the scream, tossed his suitcase to the bodyguard
behind him, and rushed into the dining room in a panic.
Livia followed, still holding her unfinished iced chocolate.
When they saw what was in front of them, everyone stood.
frozen.
“What… what is this?”
Dad’s voice shook violently.
He staggered over and tried to lift me off the floor.
Fiorella, don’t scare Daddy. Get up.”
The moment his fingers touched that stiff body, he snatched
his hand back as if burned.
It was ice–cold, with none of the warmth of a living person.
Mom shook my body like a woman gone mad, trying to shake
me back to life.
“Open your eyes and look at Mommy!”
“Mommy’s home. I brought strawberry cake.”
She tore open the coat stained with filth and held the stiff
body tightly in her arms.
The stench spread quickly.
Livia covered her mouth, staggered back several steps, and
leaned against the doorframe, gagging.
“Call the doctor!” Mom screamed at Dad. “Get the whole
family medical team in here!”
Dad dialed with shaking hands.
Renzo, seal the estate. Bring Dr. Varenna and the whole
emergency unit here now.”
He sounded like a father on the edge of losing his mind.
Tell them to save my daughter. Whatever it costs.”
In less than ten minutes, three black medical vehicles drove
through the estate gates.
The family doctor rushed into the dining room carrying
equipment, followed by the paramedics and Dad’s underboss, Renzo.
Dr. Varenna crouched down to examine me, then stopped almost at once.
He slowly stood up and took off his stethoscope.
“Don, I’m sorry. She passed away days ago. There’s nothing
any treatment can do now.”
The words hit my parents like a sledgehammer.
Mom’s head snapped up, her eyes empty.
“You’re lying!”
She lunged at him and grabbed his collar.
“My daughter was calling for her mother on the intercom a
few days ago. How can she be dead? Save her! Whatever
money you want, whatever specialist you need, save her!”
The doctor didn’t struggle. He only closed his eyes wearily.
From the state of her body and the scene, she likely ate
badly spoiled food and went without water for a long time,
leading to shock and organ failure. I’ll have the family
pathology team examine her immediately.”
“Spoiled food?”
Dad whipped his head around and stared at the half–open serving hatch.
A foul stench hit him. The meal trays were covered in mold,
broken milk cartons and rotten vegetables mixed into a mess.
“How did this happen?”
Muttering to himself, he walked over and pressed the control panel.
Nothing responded.
He tried the lights.
Click.
No light came on.
There really is no power…”
Dad’s voice rose sharply, full of disbelief and fear.
“She was telling the truth.”
Livia, standing outside the door, went deathly pale, and the
cup in her hand smashed to the ground.
Ice cubes rolled past her shoes, but she didn’t move.
